Help with College List Please?

Hello. I made a post before on CC but my stats just got updated and I decided to change majors so I thought I should make another post.

Current State: CA

Cumulative GPA

  • Unweighted: 3.79
  • Weighted: 4.26

Top 5% of class

10-11th grade GPA

  • Weighted: 4.36
  • Unweighted: 3.73
  • UC Weighted & Capped: 4.09

SAT: 1400 (CRW: 700; M: 700) <- Retaking

Hook: First Generation student going to college (I was born in Vietnam and came to America when I was 3. My parents only got their high school diploma in Vietnam.)

EC’s:

  • 3 years of CSF
  • 2 years of Winter Percussion
  • VP for a community service club
  • TNTT
  • 2 years of participating in a program that teaches children about science
  • Helped kids with disabilities over the summer of Sophomore year
  • Helped parents tend and clean their small business
  • Nature Camp Counselor over the summer of Junior Year

My EC’s don’t match with my intended major because I recently had a change of heart to accounting from a STEM major…

Awards:

  • Outstanding Leadership and Community Service by teaching program coordinator
  • 4.0+ (weighted) award from school every semester since freshman year
  • AP Scholar with Distinction

AP’s:
AP World History (3)
AP English Lang (3)
AP Physics 1 (4)
AP Calculus AB (5)
AP 2D Studio Arts (5)

Senior Workload:
AP Calculus BC
AP Macro/MicroEconomics
AP Physics 2
AP English Lit
TA
Gov

Here is what I have so far:

Safeties

  • UC Riverside
  • UC Santa Cruz
  • UC Merced
  • SDSU
  • CSU Fullerton

Match

  • UC Santa Barbara (Is this a match? I have no idea…)

Reaches

  • University of Washington (the only non-California school lol)
  • University of Southern California <- Dream School (Total Crapshot)
  • UC San Diego
  • UC Irvine
  • UC Davis

For the schools that do not have an undergrad accounting program, I was thinking of applying as undeclared or an economics major and then later try to get into that school’s accounting major as a graduate. Is this a good idea?

I welcome any changes in my list and any other college recommendations! Thank you in advance!!

Freshman admit rates (2016) for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19:

UCB: 14%
UCLA: 14%
UCSD: 44%
UCSB: 54%
UCD: 58%
UCI: 65%
UCSC: 85%
UCR: 94%
UCM: 96%

The above rates are averages and not major specific.

I think your safety schools are fine although I would put SDSU and UCSC in more of the Low Match category. UCI/UCD and UCSB would be in the High Match category.

UCSD looks like a Low Reach but with Econ being a capped major, make sure you select a non-capped major as an alternate. Your Reaches look like Reaches but definitely not out of reach.

I apply as an Econ major instead of Undeclared.

Best of luck.

Thank you so much!! @Gumbymom

What’s your budget? Perhaps add 1-2 more CSU s, one safety and one match.
What’s your EFC?
Colleges like Occidental, Whitman, UPuget Sound would be interested and have excellent business/economics.
If you’re willing to leave the West coast, using WUE look at Montana State, Colorado State; for merit ASU Barrett.
Run the NPC on all of these.

i wouldn’t bother retaking the SAT , another 15 points won’t make a difference.

Here’s ,my re-shuffle:
Safeties

  • UC Merced
  • SDSU
  • CSU Fullerton

Match

  • UC Riverside
  • UC Santa Cruz

little reach

  • UC Irvine
  • UC Davis-
    UC Santa Barbara
  • University of Washington

Big Reach

  • University of Southern California <- Dream School (Total Crapshot)
  • UC San Diego

UC Irvine and Davis both have average Sat scores that are well below 1400 so I’m not sure why they are seen as a reach for you. Also your gpa is fine for those two schools. Uc reaches for you would be UCLA and UCB. Irvine, Davis, and Santa Barbara are definitely matches and not reaches.

i think ur top 9% (or maybe not) but in that case u dont have to apply to merced
