I am a little confused on how teacher recommendations work on the common app? I know that I invite teachers, they work on the rec online and then submit it as part of my application. Most schools I am applying to want two teacher recs and a counselor rec, but I have three teachers (2 are history/english and 1 is math/science) and one extracurricular contact I would like to ask. Using the common app, can you ask as many teachers as you would like and then "mix and match" recs, assigning certain teachers to certain schools? Also, hypothetically if I sent 2 teachers (1 math/science and 1 history/english), 1 extracurricular, and 1 counselor rec to my schools, would that be overkill?

Yes that’s the way it works and your plan sounds just fine.

for schools that don’t specify whether 2 is the absolute max number of teacher recs, would it be overkill to send 3 teacher recs (1 history, 1 econ, 1 science), 1 extracurricular and 1 counselor? I feel like the three teachers all will each add something new and, considering the subjects are all pretty diverse, I’m sure there will be plenty of variety.

Anyone know much about this? Should I simply email the colleges?
