Teacher recommendations...

Theoretical situation to confirm what I understand about the common app... :

I could have 2 teachers and 1 counselor signed up on commonapp.com, send in their recommendations, and then potentially apply to, say, 75 schools without having to bother my teachers/counselors any further?
would they even be informed as to which/how many schools I am sending their rec's to?

this would be very stress relieving, because I have the feeling that asking teachers for too many recommendations makes them prone to a less favorable report on me...! :D

BUMP. 10characters

teamfrangela92: You don’t have to bump this question after only 4 minutes. It doesn’t do anything.

To answer flyingllama’s questions: Yes, your theoretical situation would be plausible. Your teachers will probably ask you which schools you are going to apply to, before they decide to recommend you to the colleges.

In theory, the two teachers and one counselor recs are okay, but I would tell your teachers which ones you plan to apply to.

I’ve known a few teachers who only send their recs to 6 colleges max. If that is the case for any of your teachers, you may need another teacher.

The Common App displays for each teacher the full list of schools for which they are writing you a recommendation.

The teacher only has to fill out the information and write a letter once, and it will get sent to all of those schools automatically.

However, you will have to select each teacher from a drop-down list for each school for which you want to use their recommendations, which would probably take at least 10 minutes of clicking if you have 75 schools.

I think I get it, but I’m still slightly confused. Which case below accurately matches the process?

Case 1: We ask/invite our teachers to CommonApp.org, and they write a general recommendation. After they are finished, I can add schools on CommonApp.org and attribute that recommendation to each school, as I like.

Case 2: We add schools on CommonApp.org, and only after we have attributed a teacher to those schools, will the teacher be asked to write a recommendation.

Case 1. It’s just that you can assign recommendations to schools before the teachers actually do them.

I think this should explain anything else for you. https://www.commonapp.org/CommonApp/Docs/2009-10School_Forms_Overview.ppt

Here’s Case 3: one of teachers that was targeted for recommendations has moved to another school at the end of this past school year. My understanding is that the online procedure is to pick teachers from your school listing to initiate rec process. If teacher is no longer on the list of my son’s school, does that eliminate online possibilities for recommendations from that teacher? Thanks.
