Help!!! with essay and test score

Hi,

My daughter is applying to Vassar in Novemeber for ED 1. I have a lot of
questions, but three main ones.

First, what is the minimum ACT score that you have heard anyone have that
got into Vassar, and what do you think the average/lowest can be/

Second, she has two essay ideas. One is on a hardship she endured in a move
to Montana from California with her family, that involved being homeless and poor.
OR an essay on a form of parasite that envades the body of a horse (which she
had to study extensively in the united states pony club) very detailed and focused.

Third, how does a dance audition piece (sent in) weigh into admissions? She is a strong
dancer but has a lower ACT (will retake in two weeks)

Thanks so much for any help. If possible please tell me about your personal experience in these areas.

Sirena

As far as ACT goes, the 25th percentile score for this year’s class was 29. Below that, consequently, the scores become rarer and rarer.

I’m assuming the essay in question is for the ‘Your Space’ section of the application. Simply put, your daughter should choose the topic she’s more passionate about. Successful application to Vassar isn’t impressing admissions personnel so much as it is projecting the person behind the grades.

Finally, dance is definitely a big part of Vassar. The question is whether an audition piece will truly offer something worth the time of the instructors viewing it. If your daughter feels confident enough in the submission, then by all means, go for it.
