Help with Financial Aid?

I recently got dismissed from UC Davis. I want to go to a community college but I was wondering how I would go about doing that? Will my financial aid from UC Davis transfer to the community college? Does anyone have any experience with this? Should I wait or call the financial aid office from my previous school? They said that it would take 4 to 6 weeks to process, so I don't know.

Furthermore, I applied for the FAFSA in February, and I listed UC Davis as the school that I would like to receive financial aid in. Since I no longer attend UC Davis anymore, how do I go about switching the schools?

Thank you for your time.

You should be able to go into the FAFSA and make a correction regarding the school. If you have just been dismissed from school, there will be things to do before you can go to another school. The biggie will be to make sure you don’t owe any money to the school that dismissed you. If you do, they will not release your transcripts, which you will need to go to any other school.

No, your financial aid from one school does not transfer to another school. You have to apply all over again for aid from the new school.

To apply for aid at the new school, you have to add that school to your FAFSA. They will then use your FAFSA to make an FA offer. Some Federal aid should stay about the same. For instance if you are eligible for a certain amount of pell grant at one school, it should be the same at any other school. Other federal aid may vary largely. For instance SEOG grants, Perkins loans, and WS are determined by a school’s own policies as they have very limited funding.

As teach said, make sure you do not owe money to the old school. If you were dismissed for academic reasons, this may have an impact on your eligibility for aid at a new school (if you do not meet their SAP policies for aid eligibility). This is something you need to discuss with the new school.
