I know this is a stupid question, but I’m having difficulty deciding what to check off on applications to “describe myself”. My father is from Pakistan, and my mom is from the States but she is half Native American and half Irish/caucasian. So do I check off Asian American, Caucasian, Native American, or just plain Other? Which would benefit me the most? Thanks for any advice it would be greatly appreciated!

If you want the upper hand, most definitely check Native American. They are underepresented on virtually every campus in the states.

Most ask you to check off ALL THAT APPLY. So, check them all off. I think to JUST put yourself down as Native American would be misrepresenting yourself, since you're only 1/4 native american and mostly NON-native american. The underrepresented portion of the Native American population does NOt consist of people with a bit (1/4, 1/8 whatever) of Native American blood running through them, it consists of those who are TRULY 100%.

hey i have the same exact problem too...my mom's from Pakistan my dad is from the states, with french and scottish ancestry...i usually either put asian or other, but only when i can select one...otherwise i put both asian and caucasian.
