hello there~
so i’m a sophomore in high school and course forms are due on friday of this week. i spent all spring break deciding my courses for next and senior year but i can’t make up my mind about my electives ;-;
junior - ap lang, ap calc ab, ap bio, apush, ap spanish lang, __, wind ensemble
senior - ap lit, ap calc bc, ap chem, ap gov/econ, _, wind ensemble
the problem is the two electives. i can choose from ap psych, stats, physics 1, es, or comp sci. i am not interested in psych and will probably take stats at a cc over the summer, so that narrows it down to physics 1, es, or comp sci.
comp sci is required for graduation, which is okay i guess. i want to take it junior year because of scheduling (if i try to take it senior year and another class is in the same time slots as comp sci, then i would be forced to take an intro to computing class instead -.- so yeah, i also have the choice between ap comp sci a or principles. principles seems more fun but less favorable for college admissions, but a lot of my friends are taking it and it seems less intimidating.
i want to major in chemistry or math so it’s important for me to take physics 1. physics isn’t my favorite subject but i do want to be a competitive applicant, and since i want to focus on the sciences/math, physics is pretty important. is it as important as others say?
i was set on environmental science junior year, but i decided to take it out because it wasn’t as rigorous as physics or comp sci and i don’t necessarily need es to graduate (unlike comp sci or even physics). however, i do love environmental studies, having done science olympiad events on ecology and the environment and may go on to do environmental science later on.
instead of comp sci, i could take the intro to computing class (1 semester) in junior year and wind ensemble the other semester, but that would also mean that i don’t do 4 years of band (i would miss marching band, which is great, but would doing 3.5 years of band instead of 4 look band for colleges, or would it not matter? if i do this, then i could take ap physics 1 junior year and apes senior year (or vice versa).
i could also ditch wind ensemble because marching band is required and it is really time-consuming esp in the fall, but i also want to be a well-rounded person so although i would love to quit band for apes and stats, i don’t think it would happen, even though music isn’t my passion.
i’m really stuck in a dilemma right now ;-; what would be the best course of action to take? i want to apply to ucs and maybe some of the higher, more competitive schools.
thank you so much~ xx
