HELP with moving on campus 2017 from TX!!

Hello,

My name is G and I am a '17 moving on to Dartmouth campus this fall on August 30 and I have absolutely no idea how I am going to bring my things on campus.

I received a catalog from Dartmouth about a Campus Value Pack, and I want to purchase it for my dorm room but it says it is going to ship it to my house. I don't think I would be able to take all that with me because all I have is a 3-piece American Tourister set, I don't know if I would have enough to fit all those sheets, pillows, etc. after trying to fit in all my clothes and the things I will need for my DOC trip.

I heard that there's a deal with Bed Bath and Beyond where you can pick it up at a nearby store, but who would help me with that? I am not at all familiar with Hanover and I am traveling alone by plane and will arrive on campus by shuttle...and I saw in a previous forum that shipping all this to my HM (Hinman Mail?) is not a good idea.

What do I do? Please help!

Well … you could order the value pack, travel with maybe a sheet, and have your folks ship the pack after the crush dies down. HB = Hinman Box. (Tip: Even though UPS says they don’t ship to mailboxes, you can use [your box number] Hinman as a faux street address, and no one will be confused.)

I believe a lot of the big box stores (Walmart, K-Mart, Bed Bath etc.) have that order & pick-up option. If you can’t make friends quickly with someone who has a car (this sounds to me like something that the Connections 2013 might help with (see [TheDartmouth.com: Connections 2013 aims to help freshmen adjust](http://thedartmouth.com/2013/07/30/news/connections)), there is a free area shuttle that can get you to (or close to) whatever store you pick. Info here: [Advance Transit Home](http://www.advancetransit.com/) I’m pretty sure one of the lines runs out to West Leb where all those stores seem to be located.

If you order anything, have it sent to your Hinman address. It will be there for you. Son had to make several trips to pick the boxes up, but it was convenient.

Hinman Box will work since you have no other alternative.

And yes, if I recall, we used a faux address for campus as well in Amazon and Fedex Ground. ‘Corner of…’

btw: not a fan of campus linens, since I prefer softer sheets, i.e., higher thread count. But you can easily find them at BB&B and just ship to Hinman. Just make sure to arrive early in the am, so you can get your bedding boxes out to your dorm.

For packing, I don’t recommend anything larger than a 16" cube - easier to carry. Large pillows may require a larger box, but just pack it light.

Enjoy your four years. It’ll blow by too quickly.

Thank you so much everyone! I’m so new to all of this.

I decided that I am just going to order everything through Amazon Prime and send it to my Hinman Box…Dartmouth said they will start accepting mail for us as of August 27, so I made a College wishlist and I’ll order everything later this month so that it gets there when I arrive on the 30th.

Thanks everybody

Enjoy your approximately 1370 days as a Dartmouth College student. It goes by much too quickly.

Just as an FYI re shipping: the best deal in the US is USPS Priority Mail. It will get a box up to a 12" cube anywhere in the US in 3 days for about $15 max. If shipping regionally, and it doesn’t have to go on a plane, the box can be bigger for the same price and the delivery will be faster. This is generally 30-40% the cost of equivalent service by UPS or Fedex.
