Teacher recommendations and my essay will be bomb.
ok, i need help cutting down my list and organizing it...but here is a long list of my possible college choices..i have started researching finally
Oberlin College, Carnegie Mellon, Gettysburg College, Lehigh University, Northwestern, Cornell, Boston College, University of Pennsylvania, Brandeis, UC...Berkely, San Diego, Los Angeles, Davis, Santa Barbara, Villanova, Columbia, Amherst College
I know I have a few in that list that are ridiculous. Please let me know if any of them are not even worth applying to, and could you tell me what would be some good reaches and targets from that list?

You have your UCs which is one application and money for each. If that doesn't matter, they are good to go.

I suggest you look at each of the other schools on your list and ask yourself why you are interested in applying to each one. What sort of campus are you looking for? Do you want to be far away from your current home? Do you have academic interests that are met by these schools? None of them are ridiculous if you really know why you would like to apply to them and they meet your needs. You may not get in. But that is a different story. Except for the UCs, your list seems to be all over the place, doesn't seem to have any common theme.

haha yes it is a very random list i know. my problem is i dont know what i want to study...maybe english, engineering, math related, i dont know. and i dont really know what kind of campus im looking for, possibly because im not picky and ill adjust anywhere. Plus my parents may be moving next year (to somewhere pretty far) and I dont know where that leaves me. Perhaps that is my problem, and I need to start evaluating what I really want. I should change my username to miss indecisive. Thank you for your guidance. Im going to start really asking myself these questions and then I will continue with my search.

If you want to apply to a school that doesn't require teacher recommendations or essay, look at someplace like Indiana University where you can apply early (it has rolling admissions). There may be an honor's college attached that you could apply to. It is big enough to allow you to grow into a major/minor, course of study. It is a simple application. And if you turn it in soon, you may have an acceptance before the holidays. That's a good feeling and a start.

when i said my recs and essay will be bomb, i meant they will be excellent. though the idea of growing into a major or course of study is appealing. thanks for the tip.

o.k. I am a bit out of touch with the vocab. :)
