Help with myBerkeleyApplication update?

I'm having some trouble here. In the "breadth requirements" section, I've completed the L and S requirements, not IGETC. So, I scroll down to breadth, and there's a box that says "I have completed 3 years of a foreign language in high school" which I checked off because I have.

Then, in the box below that, there's a portion that says "Language other than English (LOTE) -- 2 semesters or 3 quarters at the college level; or 3 yrs of a language in high school w/grades of C or better; or AP language exam scores of 3, 4, or 5; or IB (higher level) language exam score of 5, 6, or 7." and then it has a portion for me to input stuff. Do they actually want me to list each course and the grade I received in it, even though it was high school stuff? Right next to the box it says.."LOTE - HS Course, College Course, AP Exam" which makes me think I should list the high school courses.

That doesn't really make sense though, because three years of a foreign language is 6 semesters, and there's only 4 boxes there. Does anyone know? I've been on hold for like 30+ minutes and am pretty sure I'll never be able to speak to a Berkeley representative.

p.s- I saw there was another thread but didn't want to hi-jack it.

does anyone know what I’m talking about? Am I supposed to actually fill in my high school spanish grades or just leave that section blank?

I was wondering the same thing… I was thinking we were supposed to just check the box if used high school to satisfy the requirement… I will probably call soon to make sure as well.

I would think that, but in the box below it says “HS Spanish course” as an option or whatever. I can’t even imagine how to put them in there though…I guess they’d have to carry over into the comment box. I called today, but gave up after being on hold for 30+ minutes. I’ll try again Monday.

I was confused about that also, I just clicked the box but I don’t know if that’s correct or not.

^ my UCB update doesnt even ask for foreign language, im concerned about that now.

If you satisfied in high school then when you get accepted they will need proof. That simple. And every school at Berkeley has a different MYBERKELEYAPP. Some schools will ask for things that other schools don’t.

Here’s a second question: On one portion of the Berkeley update it asks for your SAT Math score. I have taken the test, but would rather not give the results there…do I have to?

^^wth? what’s ur major? i thought UCs dont ask for that crap

SAT scores are not necessary. If it is asking for SAT math scores your major is probably highly impacted. And for the LOTE, one college course is equal to two semesters of high school. All you need is two semesters to fulfill LOTE, it’s equal to three years in high school.

vintj: It’s not major specific. On the Letters and Science portion of the breadth requirements, there’s a box for “I have taken the SAT Math, SAT II Math, AP Math, or blah blah blah” and then there’s a section to input your scores. I have taken two of those, but would rather not input them and am not sure if I have to.

Also, I’m not sure who the LOTE thing was directed at. Who are you talking to?

It asks for those exam scores if that’s how you wish to convey to the school that you fulfilled the requirement. If you haven’t taken a college level Math course then you put your scores, or an exam that gave college credit. However, some schools (like Haas for example) will ask for different types of supplemental information. Unlike the type of information that L & S would require.

So you’re saying I’ll be alright if I don’t put anything there? I have satisfied their math requirement.

I don’t think you have to. I would confirm with the campus first though. I’ve never heard of a transfer student providing SAT scores for admissions to a public university. SAT scores are mostly used for incoming freshmen, or to fulfill certain requirements. There was an area on my app to put it, but I haven’t taken it since high school so it’s irrelevant.
