After almost 40 excruciating minutes of listening to Beethoven/Mozart/Chopin while on hold, the Admissions Rep finally told me if you Satisfied the "Language Other that English (LOTE)" porition in highschool, leave the field blank and just check off the part in the "Additional Questions" that you completed 2 or 3 Years in HS. You can also mention it in the additional comments section at the bottom as well. This applies to both the IGETC and L&S Requirements. Even though it says on the left that you can put HS courses/grades, the Rep told me to just ignore it.

Hope this thread saved some of you guys possible confusion or time wasted. I sure as hell don't want to be on hold that long ever again.

OMG I spent an hour in my closet looking for my hs transcript b/c I don’t remember my grades and course ID. Then I hit this thread! thanks dude! Time to clean up the huge mess I just made -____-

I am still having a hard time getting through to them. I asked this question before, but I would like to be sure by someone who asked a representative: What if I received a C- in one semester but took three years of Spanish? Should I check off that I took three years or two?

I also received a C- in one semester of high school French and I took 3 years of it. Since it says only grades of C or better, I said I completed 2 years of French. However, I took 3 semesters of Chinese in cc. I checked off 2 years in high school and entered 3 grades for cc.

C- counts as a C. if you look at your major/school on assist, it should say the following:

FOREIGN LANGUAGE

You may satisfy this requirement by:

Receiving a grade of C- or higher in high school courses comparable to the
third year level of any language other than the language of high school
instruction.

-For many students who attended high school outside of the United States, where
English is not the language of instruction, then English is your foreign
language. For example, if you went to high school in China where the language
of instruction was Mandarin and took the 3rd level of English, then English is
considered your foreign language.

Passing a college course comparable to the second semester of a foreign
language as taught at Berkeley.

Achieving a score of 590 or better on the SAT II Foreign Language Subject
Exam.

Achieving a score of 3 or better on any AP Exam in a language other than
English.

Obtaining a grade of C or better on the General Certificate “A” or “O” Level
Foreign Language Exam.

are we going to have to send in our high school transcripts then? Because anyone can just say they finished 3 years of another language in high school when they didnt.

you’re a hero for sure.
thank you so much!!!
i was listening to mozzart for about 15 minutes and i gave up.
i give you props my friend
good luck to yoU!

hey just to make sure… for the wop update the ucb update receives… there is no spring information correct? it skips from winter 2010 to whatever i said for summer 2010 though i wrote something for spring on the ucapp update. thanks

do you need 3 years or 2 years of foreign language in high school to transfer to Cal? considering the fact it has a box to check for 2 years and 3

I took 3 years of Spanish in high school with all at least C or better EXCEPT one semester I got a D. So do I put 2 or 3 years of foreign language on my Berkeley app? (The D was in my 2nd year of spanish).
