Hi, as I'm coming up with a list of schools, I realized that I have almost no safety schools, and I can't seem to figure out how to find any to save my life!

Please, for the love of God, help me!

Here's some stuff about me:

GPA: 3.7
SAT: 1790 (I'm retaking to get it up)
ACT: Yet to be taken

I'm planning on majoring in Creative Writing/English

I have taken 3 AP courses and and am taking 3 next year (senior year)

I live in NY and the farthest West I'm looking is Chicago, and I'm not really looking south past Maryland. I was born and raised in the Northeast, and I kinda wanna stay there. Also, I love cities.

Some colleges I'm applying to that I really like are Pratt Institute, NYU, Emerson, Northwestern, Johns Hopkins, Columbia & Barnard (such reaches that I laugh to keep from crying ugh)

You state that you want a school in the Northeast that offers Creative Writing or English. That narrows down your list of potentials to a few hundred…

You need to give us more information about your interests. What state do you live in? Do you have connections to any schools? Do you prefer research universities, such as all the schools on your list, or liberal arts colleges, generally more appealing to creative writing types? Perhaps most importantly, how much can your family afford to pay?

As you note, your chances of admission at the schools on your current list are all unrealistic based on the limited information you included in your post.

Safeties have two components - in addition to being someplace where you are almost certain to be admitted, it must also be someplace that you know will be affordable (based on either published COA or guaranteed scholarships). A third component is that a Safety is a school where you will be wiling to attend.

Since you live in New York apply to some of the SUNY or CUNY schools. Many of them would be safeties for you. Also bump up your SAT score, as you said you will.
