I will be a senior in high school this fall. I took the SATs last March and got an 1800. (600 in each section). I'm not very good at CR. Writing, I can and have improved quite a bit just by reviewing the rules and learning how to properly construct an essay. Math has always, been my strong point, but there is something about SAT math that I can't score above a 650 or 660 . I uses this Amscos book for Math. its very good and explains every concept. I have used college board and kaplan as well.

I am taking the SATs again in October with hopes of getting a 2100 or better. I have raised writing to a 700 just by changing my technique. I have brought math up to a 650 as well. Now, i'm stuck. I don't know how to proceed. I need to bring up my score 150 points. How can I bring my math score up to a 700-750?! What do I do about CR?

It seems like your a good math student, etc., and you understand concepts well. For that reason I recommend taking a practice math section, and THOROUGHLY going through each problem. You should analyze the FASTEST way to do each problem. There are certain ‘easy’ problems that get correct, but they might be sucking away at your time. You will end up saving a lot of time and eventually increase your score. Also, just remember this, ‘the problem is easier than you think.’

Writing-

This section is actually the easiest to improve in, and most people can get a 700+ regardless of where they start. Review SilverTurtle’s guide and just complete a lot of practice questions. The errors they create are fairly basic, and you’ll see that they are extremely REPETITIVE. As for the essay, its very easy to ‘game,’ and you shouldn’t have too much problem BS’ing your way to the double digits.

Critical Reading-

This section is the hardest to raise, but don’t let that intimidate you. Its also the most straightforward to study for. Just read novels to practice the Reading Passages. Also, remember this, ‘the answer is always in the text.’ There is never any inductive reasoning or really any complex thought. Be efficient with your marking of your text. Also, once your scores start to enter the high 600’s, it will become worth your time to memorize vocabulary. I recommend buying Direct Hits.

Thanks! So you’re saying it would help if I did one of each section and went over my mistakes? Can I bring it up from a 1950 to a 2100 by October?
