I need some help resolving a scheduling issue. For the past several years, AP Chem at my school has been both Periods 6 and 7 as a double-period class. But starting next year, they are changing it to increase enrollment( my school has a rather non-science oriented body). It will be Period 7 first semester, and Periods 6 and 7 second semester. You need a half credit class to pair with it for the first semester. The problem is that that half-credit class, no matter what it is, will lower my class rank. Would it be better to take AP Chem and accept a lower rank, or instead take AP World History and AP Psycology and preserve my rank? Im applying to Duke, Cornell, MIT, Hopkins, UMD and Chicago in particular, probably for math or history (possible a double major).

Take art one semester?

If you want to go to MIT, I would say take the lower rank and get AP Chem in, because AP Psych is a joke and everyone knows it.

Bump......

can't u take a study hall the first semester? that's how ti works in my school. try talking to your guidance counselor (if he isn't a complete idiot) and talk to him about ur class rank and such.

I will, but sadly, she is a bit of an idiot.

B.u.m.p...

I think that as soon as you stop pursuing your academic interests for the sake of appearances, you set yourself up for a long trip down hill.

B.u.m.p...

If my rank drops from 12/520 to like 15, will it really hurt me if I still have 9 APs before graduation?

Take whichever class will challenge you the most and enjoy the challenge, dammit!

AP Chem is fun, trust me.
