Hi,

I'm having ALOT of trouble with the verbal section in SSAT, especially the synonyms part. Anyways, you guys have any suggestions on what to do to improve on it and prepare for it?

Please respond, I'm desperate (I'm getting like 50/60 >.<)

Thanks

Okay take a deep breath! It will be okay. First of all, the verbal section is much more forgiving than the reading and math. You can get more wrong, and still have a better score. What I did to help me with verbal is to get an SSAT prep book (I think it was Princeton Review?) that had a word “hit list”, meaning a list of words that showed up most frequently. Study those words! It helps a lot. You should look up the words in a dictionary (although the book provides definitions) to find synonyms, alternate meanings, and using the word in a sentence. There is also a “back for more” list. Study those too. Then, do practice tests - especially of the analogies. Write to down any word or analogy you get wrong. You’ll probably start seeing a pattern forming of what analogy types are hardest for you.

You’ll probably also notice you are improving. However, in my memory 50/60 is not horrible. You will do just fine.

I agree with beatlesforever about the princeton review book because (eventhough I haven’t taken the test yet) I’m using the book and it feels like it’s helping me alot with the vocab and analogies which are also my weakest links, anyways good luck :D
