I want to turn my life around and apply to:

Cornell (Goal)
Columbia
UPenn (Do they have a good engineering school?)
UC Berkeley
UCLA
Georgia Tech
RPI

for a transfer within two years. My race is African American.

I am going to transfer into Stony Brook or Syracuse next year. My teacher told me if I go to either SB or Syracuse and get atleast a 3.8+ GPA I have a shot at them. (I know I can get the GPA) Is this true? I am starting to build up my EC's. I don't know much about EC's though :/ Does research program count as a EC? What kind of EC's should I be looking to participate in? I am majoring in Electrical Engineering. What is considered for ivy league admissions for transfer students exactly (most important to least important)? What is the lowest tier ivy league school with a okay engineering school that takes transfers at the highest rate?

I can give you some advice for applying to UCLA and UCB. For EC, i really recommend participating in something that is similar to your major or your career. For example, I am a sociology major. Since I am a sociology major, I did lot of EC that involved community service work. Hope that helps.

If you google the name of a school and ‘common data set’, you can find the transfer rate. However, these will be for the entire school, not just Engineering.

Also of importance for public colleges is whether you’re IS or OOS. Are you a NY resident? If so, admissions will be more difficult, and will you be able to afford full tuition at a UC?

I will take out a loan if worst comes to worst. I need financial aid (hence why I am trying for ivy league schools, I hear they give spectacular financial aid) Yes I am a NY resident.
