So, I was just accepted into my first choice school, Auburn University. I live in Florida, so I will be having around 37,000 a year. My parents let me to believe that we could afford to pay, however, they JUST informed me they couldn't. Our EFC is like 14,000 (even though they really can only contribute like 5,000), so I won't be receiving much financial aid. I didn't apply anywhere in state and it's too late to now. I don't know what I'm suppose to do. I am applying for scholarships like crazy but I don't think I'm going to get enough. Auburn gives out loans but I don't know if I am "in need" enough for them or even if they limit how much they loan out. I don't know what to do...

Looking at CollegeBoard and UCF’s web site it looks as though UCF takes applications until May 1. I haven’t looked at all the state schools, but, it looks like you might still have a few options in-state. Good luck.

What other schools did you apply to ? Find out exactly how much your parents can contribute, and ask them to work with you to figure out your options for an education. Your education is the best thing that will ever happen to them, because they will know you will have a chance at a good living, and they won’t have to support you!

Florida has many local schools that are reasonably priced that you can attend for what your parents are willing to pay. Find a part time job and you are set. It would be a tough go and financial stress to borrow all of that money, which you would not even be able to do without a co signer which would be bringing this financial problem to their plate when they clearly cannot afford it. You have a good offer of $5K a year which is more than a lot of kids have. Use it.

I believe that New College of Florida is also still accepting apps. My son just got a letter two days ago telling him that it’s not too late to apply.
