Help?

Ok. So im a junior in high school. and i want nothing more than to go to West Point.
The thing is that i kinda messed up alot. My first two years of high school I did horribly probably because i didnt grow up like i was immature and didnt have my priorities in order (although thats not a valid excuse). At the beginning of this year i started with a 2.79 gpa. this year however im turning it around. Im taking ap italian and ap european history along with engineering honors. And i am currently doing b+ work but i am continuing to improve. so i hope to finish the year with a- grades in most if not all of my classes. next year i plan on taking more APs and continuing to do well. So i was wondering if that matters or will my gpa be that bad.
my class rank also sucks. it is 236 out of 340. however alot of kids (70 or so) in my school have a 3.0 or 3.1 range therefore i can possibly raise my rank 100 places. what percentage of the cadets were in the middle of their class?
I haven't taken SATs and im going to start to prepare for them soon. i did get my psat back and i got a 62 on critical reading (620) and math i got a 65 (650). This was without preparing too. I know it is only a psat but i can probably raise it 30-50 points if not more in each category by the time i take my sat.
Sports are my strong suit. By the time i graduate hs i will have 7 varsity letters (4 in lacrosse and 3 in football) I will probably be a captain in lacrosse my junior and senior years and football my senior year. I would like to play quarterback at army and i think im good enough too (not being cocky). but... the person in front of me who is graduating is an all-american and top 25 recruit in the nation sooo i didnt start (going to like a huge SEC school). however i probably couldve made all county if i did start. anyway i was wondering how to get recruited by WP especially when im starting late and if i should email the recruiter or something or go to a camp?
My extracurriculars are also lacking.
I didnt get credit for any clubs frosh and soph year but this year im in an engineering club and a club that supports our high schools athletics.
i can probably get a leadership position in the engineering club next year.
besides that i think im going to apply for Boy's State.

so last question: what should i do next? should i even bother with sls, being that it is ridiculously selective.

I will pretty much do whatever it takes to go here. if it is going in from high school directly to wp, going to usmaps, going to a college with rotc than reapplying, or going prior service.

SO. if you have any help with anything related to my predicament, or if you wanna answer one of my questions, or have advice for the sports recruiting, or the admission process with my particular situation. or anything at all, i would be very appreciative.

thanks for the help

please? anyone help

if you don’t write like that on the actual application with better class rank/SAT(or ACT) score…you might have a shot. Oh, also don’t forget the nomination.
—why?—
first of all, be accurate on your claims. (i.e. I didn’t start, but i think i am good enough to play for Army QB… you might be much better than the current army qb, but do you have a proof?..no one cares about what you think of your performance. let your outcomes speak for you. i know it sounds harsh, but welcome to the real world, my friend.)

USMA website or goarmysports website should give you some instructions on how to get recruited. or you can try-out during CBT.

one last thing, don’t enlist yourself to go to wp… please.

you can apply for SLS if you choose to do so. It seems like grades don’t really matter for SLS selection (from my personal experience). But SLS will not give you brownie points towards the admissions.

take this as a constructive criticism.

thank you and i would rather you give me constructive criticism…
i understand what youre saying but with the football part i guess i didnt word it correctly… i am fully aware that actions speak louder than words. i am just saying that i will put up WP recruit type stats next year.

I agree with dychang. Your resume needs to focus on what you HAVE accomplished, not on future possibilities (whether academics or athletics). …“I could have been the starting QB IF there wasn’t someone better ahead of me…” Remember, you will be competing for admissions with a very select group of individuals who HAVE accomplished great things in h.s. in ALL three areas: academic, athletic and leadership. None of them have to make excuses about why they didn’t accomplish more during h.s.

Also remember that attending WP isn’t the goal…it is military service.

hope you understand what Time2 and I are saying once you have grown up later in your life.
Making good assumptions based on few facts can be beneficial, but they never replace the facts.
if you make class of 2016, you will see bunch of people who forged CFA scores and don’t even score 100 on APFT. Please don’t be that guy.

If you really will do anything to go to West Point then…

Go enlist when you turn 17, your parents can sign a waiver. Try and get the option that allows you to attend BCT between your junior and senior year of HS. Work hard, do the right thing and let your leadership know where you want to go.

Worst case scenario, you don’t get in but get a few years of great experience.

If you have any questions about this path let me know and I may be able to give you some pointers.
