I am currently a freshman in highschool. I’m in all the honors classes offered at my school and last semester I ended with a 4.6 GPA weighted 4.0 unweighted ranked first in my class of over 500. This semester I have 2 B’s. One in honors Spanish (which I skipped Spanish 1 because of the IB program) and another in honors geometry. Is this going to ruin my chances at good colleges? I’m not sure if I can get my grades up and it stresses me out!
It will not ruin your chances at good colleges. Most schools look at much more than just grades. Do the best you can and make sure you have a life outside of academics.
Thank you! I do have a life outside of academics, but I’m not sure what all colleges look for. I got a 23 on my ACT in 7th grade, but I haven’t taken it since. I volunteer at my church, my dance school, the local homeless shelter, and by tutoring younger kids at school. I am a ballet dancer and sing in choir, but that’s about my only extracurricular activities.
As a freshman, you are definitely on the right track. B’s make me stressed out too but you have to use that stress to your advantage. Don’t let it overwhelm you or have it turn into anxiety. Relax and tell yourself to keep pushing yourself until the end of the year. You have more extracurriculars than I do, so you’ll be fine. As long as you don’t let the feeling of hopelessness take you over, I think you have a good shot at the Ivy Leagues.
