I failed the CFA. What should I do?

Are you a Junior or Senior?

What part or parts? Have results been submitted yet? You may still be able to repeat before the applications close.

Did the academy tell you that, or is that your conclusion? Sometimes, they will ask you to retake it. I didn't do well, but they accepted me.

I will assume that because you have "07" and "senior" in your name that you are a senior. The AFA demands physical excellence and if you failed your CFA you ither didn't prepare enough or you are not cut out for the physical aspect of the academy. If you can retake it then do so, but make sure you are able to do it in an unofficial environment before you go and ruin your chances.

I hate to say this, but the CFA is not that difficult compared to what you do here. If you couldn't pass it you need to take some time to prepare physically. Start working now in case you are still admitted. If not, work hard and reapply next year.

It's not that I didn't prepare. I've been training since July for it. I passed the physical test for the Coast Guard. Based on what you're all saying, I guess I just blew my chances. Thanks for letting me know.

If you passed the one for Coast Guard how did you not pass the one for air force? I scored very similarily on both, I think i got a 241 on the Coast Guard one and they don't release the scores for the CFA but either way, they're pretty similiar

I think I might have failed mine, and I'm here. Had bad did you fail it? What were your scores?

I am preparing for fitness everyday...in the winter months right now I do push-ups and sit-ups twice a day.

I don't have access to a gym at the moment.

In the summer I will run, run, run all across my town.

Did they tell you that, or did you calculate it? (I "failed" mine, by my calculations, but still got in without retaking it.) Unfortunately, I failed the one for cadets and am on recondo...recondo=no fun.

Thanks for the update z4cch.

No problem CadCandMateus.

Why don't you just tell us how well you performed in each event? For the class of 2010 USAFA did not have any minimum scores on the CFA. They did ask some to retake it. They also undoubtedly told a few low performers to consider other options for higher education. However, if you are qualified in all other areas they will do their best to determine if you can be brought up to standard with extra work. My son is on recondo at the academy right now. He was very close to passing his PFT the first time, but not good enough. However, he has an awesome cadet recondo supervisor. The conditioning program he is on has actually put his performance ahead of some of the other cadets who passed the PFT. All in all he feels it's been good for him.

What are the minimums and how much does the altitude affect you? The last time I actually tested myself I did 72 push-ups in a minute, 68 sit-ups in a minute, and ran a 6:00 min mile (out of shape). I've never done the basketball throw (do they even do that?) but I was a quarterback and played bball for years so I think I should do well on that. I hope it's not as easy as the CAP PFTs, those are just pathetic...

I can tell you if you are doing 72 push-ups a minute, they are not PFT push-ups. Make sure you break 90 degrees every rep. 68 sit-ups is kinda low, but above average based on standards. Your mile is fine. I lost 3 minutes on my 1.5 mile coming up here and doing it 2 days into BCT, but then I was back down to a good time by the end of BCT.

Speaking of, us cadets have the PFT and AFT this week. Good luck to all.

The way I did it, I had someone put a fist down and my chest had to touch the fist each time for it to count; I'm pretty sure that breaks the 90 degree plane, not sure though.

I program myself to know when I have done a correct push-up.

Takes practicing it right..that is all

68 sit-ups in a minute is low? o_O

No, 68 in 2 min. is low; 95 is max.
