Help!

ok, so i’ve noticed a lot of “chance” questions lately. would it be so bad if i ask for my “chance” for ED at Barnard as well?

SATs: CR: 690//M: 630//WR:740

Public high school in NJ

GPA: 4.93 (weighted); Rank: 3/301

SAT Subjects:
Literature: 540
Math Level 1: 610
Biology: 580

NOTE: I’m not satisfied with these scores, so I’m taking SAT Subject Literature again tomorrow (i know for a fact that I can get a 700) and US History (which I know I’ll get at least a 630).

Significant courses this year:
AP English
AP Spanish
AP Calculus
AP Government
Journalism 4

Activities:
co-editor-in-chief of school newspaper
President of a club against racism and sexism
junior commissioner on the commission of status of women in my county
Big sister in Big Brother Big Sister program
100+ volunteer hours at local hospital

so yeah. i’d appreciate if someone could reply please. thank you so much!!!

You probably have a waaaaay better chance than me :)

Since I'm only a senior and really don't have any experience working with college admissions, I'm probably not the best person to assess your chances.

I will say, however, that you do have a chance just based on your rank, course load, and SAT I scores. And since you are doing ED, your chances are most likely higher than RD. Remember, there are other things that they consider, like your recommendations, ESSAY and supplements (these two are very important!) , basically stuff like that.

Where in Jersey are you from anyway? I'm just curious since I'm also from Jersey :)

If I were you I would consider applying RD so you have time to take the ACT to avoid sending the SAT II scores. The SAT I's are fine.

to MushaboomBlue: i'm from northern NJ. what abt you? we new jerseyans gotta stick together! lol.

To mythmom: thanks for your advice. but the problem is that i already sent in my SAT II scores to Barnard, and there's no way that I can take them back. So that's why I'm taking two of 'em in November to show that I can improve--and I'm rush delivering them. and wouldn't it be better if I do ED instead of RD, b/c of better chances?

To peace.: Cool! I'm from Northern NJ too, or more so, Northeastern Jersey! More specifically, Bergen County :)

Anyway, I have a question (for anyone to answer): Are SAT subject tests used strongly for applicant's decision? 'Cause I would think that they would focus more on the SAT I scores of the applicant than the subject tests. That wouldn't be fair if they decide to reject someone based on their subject tests if they did better in other areas such as ECs,essays, SAT I, GPAs, etc.

I would hope that colleges (specifically Barnard) would not look too much at SAT II scores (they don't represent me very well). Does anybody know the weight of SAT II scores in the overall decision?

I sent you back a message peace. That's crazy that you also live in Bergen Co. Sadly, I live in Teaneck. Pretty close though, pretty close :)

Barnard will look at your application holistically and not isolate any one score.
