Help!

So I'm actually filling this out for a friend, but I would really appreciate any suggestions you guys can give me.

My friend was admitted into his dream school, but, like many others, was severely disappointed by the financial aid package. When he asked the counselors at our school, they suggested looking at outside scholarships.

However, any outside scholarships my friend wins, he must report to the financial aid package, and they will subsequently remove that amount from his financial aid.

So what other options does he have to finance his college education? EFC is approximately 30,000 per year, and they can cover 10K, so 20,000 a year...???

Your friend needs to go back to the drawing board (as the saying goes).
He needs to find a school that:
a) costs 10k
or
b) will give him merit-based aid that brings the cost down to 10k
or
c) helps him and his parents come up with loans to fill in the 20k difference between what they can pay and what the school itself can award

And, yes, it is just that simple. Your friend is not even remotely alone in this. There are lots and lots of people out here in the world who are attending/have graduated from the school they could afford rather than from their “dream” school.
