helpey!! need help w/college admission

Hey I was wondering if this looks like what ND is looking for at all for music/creative writing majors:

GPA: 4.19 weighted (going to rise)
3.88 unweighted (same)
Rank: 32/317 (getting better..it's in the 20's now)
SAT: (they're not fair)..writing 610, crit reading 520, math 550.
ACT: June 10th, not taken yet.
9th grade i took almost all honors (I have 3 B's on my transcript), 10th grade i took 2 honors, this year (11) i took 1 ap and 4 honors and have all A's (one b+). From 10th grade on, I have all A's on the transcript. Next year, I am taking 4 AP's (2 AP and 2 ap weighted honors) and 1 actual honors honors.

Extracurriculars: People to people student ambassador program, national youth leadership conference (possibly--next summer), glsen (helps teach others about diversity), junior mendelssohn choir, voice lessons, piano lessons, cantoring for my rabbi, jazz choir, chamber choir (most elite), and many others that I can't think of.

Thanks!!

I don't want to discourage you, but you look like a longshot to me. Your class rank might be OK with great boards, but your boards are a negative rather than a plus. Put ND down as a reach if you love it, but apply to some schools that are more in line with your credentials.

Unfortunately I have to agree. First of all, ND doesn't look at your major coming in so that can't help or hurt you (at least that is what they say). The rank and the SAT worries me quite a but honestly. If you can pull those up I think you have a shot but it is definately a reach from these levels. Best of luck too you (I have been in your shoes) and if it doesn't happen, head to my website. http://www.nd.edu/~mnadorff/transfer

thank you so much for your help (checking out the site now ^_^)

Depending on how competitive your school is, your rank may not be bad, especailly if you can continue to raise it a bit- upward trends are always good. What will hurt you the most is you SATs. Whether they are "fair" or not, they could definitely hold you back. Retake the SATs and you have a shot.

yeah like the people above, retake your sats and aim for atleast 600+ on each. Good luck though

i had that GPA this year with 1960 on the SAT and got waitlisted so unless you've got something really out there i'd say very low chance

I know it's really hard to hear that ND is a reach for you. Even if you already know it, it hurts when you read it from other people. I posted a "chances" thread too and I was similar to you only my scores/gpa/rank were a little higher and, like you, I was involoved in tons of extracurriculars. I did not get in. It's a tough school to get in to, so for sure apply to a few schools. Don't be like me and have your goal school and only one back-up. Study for your ACT's because it really does help, and if your ND dreams don't come true you can always transfer.

Probably a reach for you. But if you can improve over your SAT scores by either doing well on the ACTs or taking the SATs in the fall with your grades you might have a shot. I improved my verbal score from a 550 to a 660 by retaking the exam. My suggestion is to try using a Princeton Review guide for either of the exams (it worked for me) and hope for the best. The classes though are a waste because they usually just go through the same books. The only good they can do is forceyou to do the work.
