This summer, there's this volunteering program where people help the victims of Hurricane Katrina. People help both mentally and physically. If I volunteer in this program, will this help for med schools? I'm not doing this solely for med school purposes but it would be great if my intentions and helpfulness for med school coincides. I know this program isn't that prestigious but I would like to know how med schools will look at it.

any opinions?

whats the program called?

its at artofyouthliving.org
its called young leadership training program

Well it sounds legit, I think it can be helpful for medical school if you write about or discuss what you learned from the entire program and what you got out of it.

thanks. bluedevilmike, could you also put in some input? thanks

I don't know how old you are.

im 19 years old, but does this matter?

If you had been in high school, medical schools wouldn't care.

So this is something you'll list on there as something you did, and possibly you'll write an small essay on it and explain it. This obviously won't replace clinical exposure, which is okay. It sounds like it's not particularly high-commitment, which is also okay. The key really is going to be what you learned from it. I doubt this will make or break you either way, but it gives you something to talk about and that's always a plus, I guess.
