Helppp!!!!

7 year BS/MD program

I REALLLY needs everyone's help in deciding if what I want to do is actually right for me. So please share your opinions , whether if you have been through this process, or if you are also competing to get into a 7 year Medical program. Any advice is appreciated. My profile is:

I am a junior in NY. I took the SAT twice already, but my 2nd sitting got me a 650 in reading, 680 in writing and 760 in math. I am planning on taking it again this october, along with the ACT in september. I have taken 3 sat 2s so far, but I retaking 2 of them again. I took math, level 2, got a 670, so I am retaking that and Biology, since I just took AP bio this year. I took Chemistry SAT II and got 670. I am in the top 8% of my school and my gpa is 3.8 out of 4.5 i think. And that's 98 out like 107 (for some reason our school goes over 100 and I think this is weighted). I am 46th out of 646 students.

AP classes taken so far: World History, Biology, Calculus AB, US History. As a Senior I will take AP Chemistry, AP Calc BC, AP French, AP Literature, and AP Government and Politics. Besdies that I already took honors chem, bio, physics, french, english.

Extracurricular activities: 8/9th grade Production Manager for school play, 9th grade- Treasurer for Student Government, 10th- Secretary of Science Olympiad, 11th- Business Manger/ Treasurer of the school newspaper and Vice President of the French Honor Society. I am also the Treasurer for the Biology department in our school. Next year I already know that I am the Co-President of the Business Honor Society and I am trying out for 2 other positions next year.

Outside school: I am researching with a mentor for Intel research project now and over the summer. I am in the WISE program with a university near me (SBU). I volunteered from 8th grade at a private doctor's office, doing important things like filing, billing, appointment organization, taking in patients and just secretary sort of work. So I did over 100 hours there but I am also going to volunteer at a local hospital and a Veteran's home over this summer.
Schools with 7 year program that I want: Drexel, Villanova, TCNJ- UNDMJ, Drew, SBU, PennState, BU, Sophie Davis, Binghamton, GWU etc. If anyone knows other schools, please let me know.

Also I am pretty young in my grade, I am only 15 and in 11th grade, i was born in Dec 1993, I dont know if that will help me any way. I know that my SAT scores are kinda low, but I am working on that. I think I need over a 2200 to be really good. So please, if anyone has any info or advice, do share. Thanks.

First of all, it’s good that you are thinking about this now because you will know what your options are going into the process. You have correctly identified that you need to raise your SAT, which should be fine because most people retest better. You are correct, you will need roughly a 2200 to be competitive. Your research is good, and your volunteering is excellent, which will help you exhibit your commitment to medicine. With that said, let the chancing begin:

Drexel - There’s actually a lot of competition for this program, so this won’t be the easiest program to get into. I expect that you will get an interview if I am understanding your GPA correctly (if you have a 3.8 and your school weights up to a 4.5, then yeah I expect you to get an interview. If not, I would say probably not.)

Villanova - Again, competitive. Are you interested in BS/DO? It is easier to get into, and I think you would be in at Villanova for BS/DO.

TCNJ-UNDMJ - Not super familiar with their program, but pretty sure thy are hoping for in-state students. If so, your chances are so-so, as in-state preference is difficult to compete with

Drew- I have never hear of their program, sorry.

SBU- You meet their minimum criteria, which is good. I think you would be a strong candidate for admission here (perhaps your strongest chance) but I don’t know how competitive their applicant pool for this is (though I imagine its competitive)

PennState- Sorry to say this, but PennState is super competitive and you probably won’t make it. It gets a lot of overlap apps from HPME and PLME, so while you are a strong applicant, this probably won’t happen.

BU - Again, very competitive. You are a good applicant, but this one is difficult to call. I would say probably not.

Sophie Davis- You’re instate, which is awesome, and you have good stats. It is competitive, but you have a good chance (if you are a minority you have an even better chance)

Binghamton - I don’t know enough about the nature of their program to chance you

GWU - Your best shot for GWU is probably with SBU, plus SBU’s tuition is way cheaper.

Where you should consider:

CUNY Brooklyn has a BS/MD program. Also, you should consider BS/DO programs as they are a little easier to get into. Otherwise, apply early and have safeties! BS/MD programs are never guaranteed. Also, if you get into an amazing school like Columbia, NYU, UMichigan, UCBerk, etc. it is better to attend a non BS/MD program and get a better undergrad experience. You will be very competitive for med school, and will likely get into better schools that Drexel for med school (like UMich, Northwestern, etc.)
