That would be my parents. I’m the one who cares about the ‘fit’ while my parents push me towards choosing Andover (not that I’ve even been accepted, mind you) although I’d honestly prefer, say, Lawrenceville or Loomis.

Bump- If you’d like to add something new now or an observation after revisit day, please feel free!

I’ve missed this thread. Thanks again, @PhotographerMom.

Bump!

There are some really nice observations on this thread about various schools ( and helpful info about adjacent cemeteries, too!.. Cough ). It may be worth a glance for students/parents looking into schools now.

If you were an applicant last year and would still like to share something, please feel free to contribute.

Thanks and good luck to all the new applicants! I hope you will return to this thread and share some of your observations after your tours and interviews!

All the best!

Bumping again…

How do schools feel about a student applying to ONLY that school? (and stats are above the school average by a nice cushion)

You’re killing me, @mexusa . :)

So what does THAT mean @PhotographerMom ?? Am I being too anxious?

Read the original post or post#14 and you tell me.

I just discovered this thread and I love it! Sorry to be so “late to the party”. As to Stargirl3’s post on places you can’t walk: Portsmouth Abbey has the Holy Lawn. It is not officially forbidden but, by tradition, no one walks on it until graduation. No worries, there are plenty more beautiful places to walk on campus (it is right on Narragansett Bay).

I am also finding it interesting how the posts here are all about a much larger variety of schools than is mentioned on the Prep School Admissions board. That makes me happy. There are so many terrific schools out there, and it’s nice to see some of them mentioned here in such glowing terms.

My first choice has to be Taft or Westminster in CT so far.
I really fell in love with both of them, and they both seemed just right for me. My interviewer at Westminster loved me (The theatre director practically accepted me right on the spot!) and Taft has always been a place that I will want to attend since I applied in 8th grade.
If I got into either of those schools, I would be totally happy!
However, I still have to visit Kent, Choate, and Porter’s, so we’ll see!
I’d be happy to get into any school I applied to because I loved them all so much. Picking one (if I even get in which would be a long shot) would be difficult, for sure!

Thanks for the wonderful post @HistoryGeek40 ! Good luck on your remaining tours/interviews!!

If you’re interested in Rowing- all the schools you mentioned ( except Westminster- which is a really nice school, by the way) have fantastic Crew Programs.

Anyone touring schools that offer Crew should definitely check out the Boathouse! It’s a great sport worth exploring.

And- keeping with the spirit of this thread… Over the years, I’ve taken many photographs of BS Rowing: The venues… boats… boathouses… coaches and rowers are all extraordinary. So many photographs- I could probably publish a coffee- table book! Crew is a very tough and demanding sport but it’s also (IMHO) the most beautiful. I encourage everyone to check it out. It’s definitely a sport that can change your life .

This is a great topic, and is similar to a question I asked our student tour guides when we were visiting schools:

" What was it about this school that made you choose to come here?" My favorite answer was the tour guide at Taft: “It was the gate at the entrance to campus”.

Our daughter seems smitten by other things, with something at each school. But we all got a nice chuckle about the gate at Taft!

I’m trying so hard not to fall in love.

But I’m failing. Why do these schools all have to be so amazing? :x

One school blew me away with how accommodating the admission office was. I scheduled my appointment for Thursday that Monday, and then on Tuesday told them I only had time for an interview. When I got there, two freshman girls were like “we have five minutes; we’re going on a tour!” They took me through the main building and showed me a dorm (it was insanely beautiful). My mom had to drag me out of there.

Classic.

@mrnephew Hello! :-h How are you?

I’m not even kidding. I was pulling another yearbook off the shelf as Mom came out of the interview and she was like “really, we need to go” and I was like “nooooo.”

B-) Sounds about right :)
