I currently live at UVT, the place comes fully furnished, and depending on what lease you get you can possibly have your own room and bathroom.
It’s a fairly safe place just don’t be out alone late, that kinda goes without saying.
It is quite, just the occasional ambulance that passes by but thats about all the outside noise you’ll get.

If you have any other questions about UVT I can try my best to answer.

tlg0814 - yup really. people who already live in campus housing get priority, so they were filled up by current first year dorm residents and returning residents. i applied before the guaranteed priority deadline and i dont think im gonna get in. probably get stuck with bannockburn -_-

UVT is kind of expensive…it is convenient, but if you know people who you’d wanna get an apartment with id recommend looking at other apartment complexes in the area. i dont really have any names for you though haha. there’s university village apartments, which is right behind lothian.

Financial Aid awards should now be available on your growl account.

PLEASE HELP ME.
I think I might be failing all of my classes this quarter…
That means I’ll probably be on STD next quarter, right?
Can someone give me the guidelines of STD if my GPA falls significantly below 1.5?

first of all thanks for doing this
i already asked this question but il do it again to get more input :stuck_out_tongue:
how fast does Pentland fill up?

how does the housing contract work, do i have send in my SIR before i fill out the housing contract?

Which meal plan would you suggest? i will most likely not be cooking and it would be too far from home to get food (makes me sad :()

What year can i get a single room?

How is the engineering department (i want a students opinion not one from online or the school website since that isn’t “accurate” since they are advertising it)

More specifically how is the electrical engineering department?

Do classes fill up fast?

How’s calc 2, calc 3, and higher physics classes?

I want to do lots of research and internship starting freshmen year, is it hard to get these?

Overall how would u describe the environment (outside and inside) the campus, the student body, professors, and the school it self (as in building structures, equipment, etc).

Last question for now why the heck did they send me a poster in the mail…i mean i like the thought but my mom and I thought it was going to be important papers for admissions and rushed to the post office (she had to leave work early). i personally dont see the need for it but yea…

Thanks Again for answering all these questions and i know its a lot but just needed to get to know before i decide which school i will go to.

@FutureEEmajor - i think pentland has more rooms than lothian or ai, so if you wanna get in you have a good chance. however, last fall they did divert some people to UV towers.

i dont think you have to SIR before applying for housing. try it out. but dont do it if you have to pay a deposit and you’re not sure you’re attending

TAKE THE CHEAPEST MEAL PLAN. you can ALWAYS upgrade, but it is near IMPOSSIBLE to downgrade. money hungry monsters. if you take the cheapest meal plan you can get a feel for how much food you need, and upgrade accordingly. ive tried to downgrade twice now and they just ignore me. the food gets bad after ten weeks, and absolutely disgusting after 20 weeks.

you can get a single room any year you want. you just have to apply for it and have a good reason. if you dont have a good reason, second year.

i hear engineering is very good, but i wouldnt know from personal experience

Yes. classes fill up fast.

go on classes.ucr.edu, look up the classes, the professors teaching the classes will be there, then you can check out student reviews on ratemyprofessors.com. but you shouldnt be worrying about that already. worry about the school as a whole, classes are going to be hard at any college you go to.

Yes it is hard to get research opportunities, but its pretty easy to get internship opportnities, esp if you have work study. ggo on careers.ucr.edu

its a beautiful campus. its smallish, so easy to navigate, but big enough that it feels like a university. the student and faculty body is large enough that it really depends on your individual experience. im liking the student body and professors right now. other students dislike it. i think it depends on your outlook.

ask the admissions office.

FutureEEMajor - UCR’s Engineering (BCOE) is pretty good. It is up and coming and always developing. The advisors are amazing, you can go to them with almost any question, email them and they will respond to you within 24 hours during the weekdays usually, there are slight exceptions but not many. They also have programs to help you succeed such as learning communities for specific courses and success counselors, who are students themselves, who you can always talk to for advice or help. There are also many different engineering clubs that can help you meet new people. From your username, IEEE may be a good one to look into for you. While it is harder to gain research and internships during your first year, not entirely impossible at least summer internships since there are many emails a week about scholarships and internship programs.
I find that the people in the engineering department can be quite helpful if you know where to go and who to talk to. All professors and TAs have office hours sometime a week and usually can be found online.
Course are hard and are demanding. They expect many hours out of you a week and sometimes for you to just understand right away what is going on. Many times, the course plan does expect a lot and many students have to figure out on their own what kind of load they can manage. One thing that is also offered is the 5 year BS+MS degree for some of the majors in engineering.
I’ve found many people always willing to help in engineering, faculty and staff, but even students are willing to help others out.
As for classes, even engineering classes do fill up quick.
