Hey CCs come on in and chance me! will chance back

wat up
I am a CIE a level student, studying in the southern hemisphere. By the end of the academic year here (december) i will have 8 a levels (english literature, english language, maths, geo, history, biology, economics, chinese), hopefully all at a or a* (looks to be but you never know). I have gotten aTop in the World in AS literature award. bear in mind language is kinda a bum a level, but im really doing mine for the sake of my future career- lawyer.

I sat the sat1-2370. will look to sit 3 or 4 sat 2s cos why not hey. i am in the national selection camp for biology olympiad. there are a few other academic awards/successes, some prominent, but no gamechangers (like international/national champ).

I am a Global Youth Volunteer Youth Ambassador, as well as another ambassador role for the preservation of our beaches (my country is an island). I was also in a national level choir for a year, i still sing, but not in that choir. i was also in musical production that year. also won a national singing competition, got into final round for national team for world performing arts comp. volunteer/busk with singing, was picked up by scout and got into finals (lol) for national beauty pageant (ddnt win tho).I also rowed at a national level for a season. I have done track for all years, and competed at regional level (nothing big). i represent the school in hockey. im in the top debate team-won in our city. ive worked a part time since 11, had an internship last summer (law firm). was cultural advisor for Labour Party (liberal) in 2014 elections (cos im chinos bby)

Now. here comes the best part. well, I was expelled from my high school! hahaha when i was 13, for theft (after i was caught returning the item -_-). hence all my cocurriculars were for a year/season! my father has a gambling problem/not employed and my mother never forgave me after i apparently made her miscarriage, so i became the biggest attention seeking brat. well, after that the school suspended me for a month, then forced me to go to choir nationals for them, then expelled me. i went to a very small religious school that i hated so a year later of learning nothing i wrote a grovelling letter to the school (2nd best public in nation) that expelled me and got accepted back. lol basically im judged by everyone now and its difficult as hell to get any leadership (ive got a few), and im not allowed to do any music cocurricular. still playing sport tho. but hey, thats life.

also im that poor, probably upper low class (lol), so not in poverty (although we did live in a garage for a year, and i slept in the lounge for another due to not enough rooms)<-- would that count as 1st world hardship or real hardship?

my dream school is columbia (but ill apply to others), as i wish to be a lawyer that works with children and youth, and to start an organization later on in life helping give scholarships, help and counselling to kids who are ‘lost’. thats why im doing lots of a levels- its not the school im vying for, but the future-with the a level credits ican finish undergrad faster, and therefore enter the workforce earlier.

Bad things-im international, female, asian, and poor. also not an athlete, and no outstanding awards :frowning:

be as harsh as you want guys, i know to take these things with a grain of salt. just wanted to hear yall opinions  much loveee xx

Are you real

yup real as can be

Not buying it

why? how do i sound unrealistic

  • 8 A Levels (almost triple normal amount)
  • national choir
  • national rowing
  • regional track
  • national beauty pageant
  • interschool hockey
  • debate team -youth ambassador
  • job
  • internship
  • lower class/hardship -island

The 8 AS and A levels alone, to say nothing of school fees, would cost you about $1600, yet you say you lived in a garage. You also say you can take “3 or 4 sat2s because why not”. Maybe your school covered the fees, but this seems unlikely as you were expelled, etc.

You would also need several Time Turners to accomplish all the feats above. I find it extremely unlikely that this profile is real, although you have included several realistic details.

However, if it IS, then I expect you to be accepted into nearly any top school, if you can explain thoroughly why you were expelled and how you’ve repented. Godspeed.

hey @avix215 thank you for your reply! yes, my profile is real. is it really so hard to believe? i dont think 8 a levels are that much of a big deal. my school regularly churns out people with 6 a levels, Pre-Us, and multiple AS. i also have a job, and as i say, i dont live in abject poverty. do u think my expulsion will affect me negatively? do unis in the US really care about the life circumstances of internationals, or more achievements? thnx

I think having a criminal record could be a real issue. Top colleges don’t want students who pose a risk of a headline that reads “Columbia student arrested for everything.” Perhaps it’s a small risk, and it was a long time ago, but they have lots of great applicants with no record at all. Your portfolio is great overall, so I’d say the criminal record would be the main problem to address, but you do want to see if there’s anything you can do to mitigate that.

Grades/ECs/SAT are solid. Biggest thing will be the criminal record, fact that you’re Asian, and getting LoR from teachers as you mention you are still ‘distrusted’ at the school. If you can pull that stuff together, you have a good shot!

You need to do something special to overcome the criminal record. I don’t know what, but something targeted specifically to counteract it, not just another achievement.

thanks everyone! its not a criminal record, just a disciplinary record at school. if i get my recommendations to explain that im trustworthy would that help compensate? i could start an associationtohelp expelled students in their ‘aftermath’, but that would detract from academics. do yall think 5 a levels and an as level is enough? because the association idea sounds pretty good to me  xx

Anything you did before 9th grade doesn’t count. So, no disciplinary record.
4 A Levels is considered A LOT in most parts of the world but I guess it’d be par for the course at one of the top schools in an Asian country (…Raffles? Shri Ram? You don’t need to answer but I suppose that’s the level we’re talking about).
Living in a garage counts as being homeless in the US (as well as living in someone else’s house).
Your odds are excellent if you manage to write compelling essays.
Do apply to automatic/competitive scholarships, too - even if the universities aren’t well-known in your country.
Don’t try to finish undergraduate early, since you’ll likely be on scholarship. Use every opportunity to network, intern, create, etc., since you’ll have your university’s support.

@MYOS1634‌ OP said she was expelled from high school.

But she was reinstated; this is a secondary school but the problem occured 1° under different rules than those operating in US schools 2° before 9th grade (Year 10).

@MYOS1634 wow! so do i not a have a record? our yr grades work like this: 5 years of high school: yr9,10,11,12,13. i was expelled in the end of year 10. therefore i assumed that it would be a record, as it is in my last 4 years :frowning:

Wow, were you 13 in Year 10??
Because yes year 10 is part of High School indeed.
