Hello I’m asking you guys to give me an honest chance at any university in SoCal/LA Area
It would be nice if you ranked schools by their general ranking as well as my admit rate
Before i get to my grades i wanna note something very important:
I am NOT looking to get into top school. Im not looking for one of those "top universities in the world type schools. A decent large school with a good campus is what i would be happy with. (Ex. State university schools are fine with me)
Also, Budget is not an issue for me.
Now, onto my grades
Unweighted gpa:
3.3-3.5
(Keep in mind this is tough to calculate, we don’t use the GPA system here and also keep in mind that Canadian scores are scaled way higher to the american scale, Canadian public schools grade and test students MUCH harder than American schools do. )
To give you a better idea, The average for ALL my classes from grades 10-12 (the canadian transcript only includes years 10, 11 and 12)
is 75%
ACT Score: 21-25 (not sure yet)
I know i know its not the best but i might retake in the future, (tell me if i should)
AP Classes : Honors Physics 11
Ethnicity: Mixed
Extracurricular:
Lots of volunteer hours, helped with school events, Lots of work experience at retail stores, Played in city youth league soccer team, won championship!
Once again, I never claimed to be a top student and i’m not looking for top schools, just a decent school with a nice campus, I’m aiming to reach my goal of living in beautiful SoCal.
With your GPA and ACT scores, I would say cal state dominguez hills or san bernandino. If you improve your act score to around 28-ish then I would suggest Cal State Fullerton or any other schools in cal state system. If you could improve your gpa a bit and bring act to close to 30, then I would say you would be a match with Cal State Long Beach and UC riverside would be a reach for you. It will be difficult since you are international. If you REALLY want to come to southern california, then why not try community colleges. UC’s and cal states give advantage to community college students when considering transfers. With a GPA of around 3.5 at community college you could even get in UC Irvine.
For the UC’s, your GPA and ACT scores are below average for most of the schools.
UC Riverside would probably be a High Match to Match with an ACT of 25.
If your are aiming for UC Irvine, you would need around a GPA of 3.7+ unweighted and ACT of 28+
If you are aiming for UC San Diego, you would need a GPA of 3.8+ unweighted and ACT of 30+
If you are amining for UCLA, you would need a GPA of 4.0 unweighted and an ACT of 32+
For Privates: You might want to consider Pepperdine, Loyola Marymount, Chapman, University of La Verne, University of Redlands, University of San Diego, but you would need to increase that ACT to at least at 25+.
Cal States:
Consider San Marcos, Northridge, Cal State Los Angeles with your possbile current Stats.
If you can improve your GPA and ACT, then Fullerton, Cal Poly Pomona and Long Beach
I second the suggestion made by @Sachte, about starting off in a community college and using the TAG (Transfer Guarantee program) to transfer into one of the UC’s (except UCLA/UCB/UCSD). Good Luck.
