Hey guys...chances for Tufts, Georgetown, etc..

<p>Hey so I know it's a little early in the application season to be asking about admission chances BUT I thought it would be wise to weight my chances and...well get real. Expectations are super high but I'm certainly excited about the opportunities ahead of me =]. Looking at University of Maryland-College Park, Boston College, Tufts, Georgetown, Boston University, George Washington, American, Brown, NYU, Carnegie Mellon. Interested in International Service/politics/economics.</p>

<p>White, Male, Mid-income range.</p>

<p>My GPA through Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior Year=3.82(unweighted) and 4.5 (weighted) I will probably be top 25% unweighted and top 5 or 10% weighted out of a body of 400 students.</p>

<p>You know, it’s not clear to me why so many students start chance threads. Sure, maybe you’ll get super lucky and have an actual admissions counselor stumble in, but other than that, the chances you’re given are going to be pretty uninformed.</p>

<p>Selective schools, like Tufts, Georgetown, Brown, Carnegie Mellon etc., will see your quantitative information (GPA, SAT, AP scores etc.) as putting you into a pool of qualified students from which admitted students will be accepted based on qualitative factors (essays, recommendations, legacy status and whatnot). You should be able to determine by yourself whether you will be in this pool or not, as most schools make public the average SAT, ACT, and GPA of their incoming class. No one besides the actual admissions counselor who reads your personal statement is going to be able to tell you if you’ll be accepted from that pool or not.</p>
