Hey guys, quick question regarding SAT II scores and columbia!

I've got my mind set on applying ED to columbia this fall. Unfortunately I will only have 2 SAT II scores to report. I'm taking them tomorrow lol. my question is: is it enough just to send US HIstory and French w/o listening? like, will those to suffice, in terms of requirements? i know i only need to submit two, but i'm not so sure if french will count or not.

thanks in advance

p.s. how would it be if my us history test is above 650 (hopefully above 700!) but my french one is above 750?? i started prepping for history yesterday because i just procrastinate like that :( .

that history doesn’t sound promising. it shouldn’t be too much of a deal though, just do your best I guess.

why wouldn’t french count? if your mother tongue is french, it might be less helpful, but not useless.

yeah, i agree on the history but unfortuately my procrastination is biting me in the buttox!

and i just always get the feeling that colleges disregard foreign languages, but i guess im wrong. and no, it’s not my mother tongue.

thanks zephyravatar

Are you applying to SEAS or CC? if you’re applying to CC then there is no mandatory subject that you must take. So just submit any two. However if French is your native language, then I guess submitting it would be frowned upon.

I’m applying CC. So the lack of a math related test won’t be a problem, i guess. and my native language is spanish :D

thank ya’ll

They don’t look down on foreign languages. In fact having a language SAT is very useful, for it can often place you out of a foreign language requirement.

I applied with a French without listening and got into Columbia. Latin is my other language SAT. So foreign languages are not ignored in any way.

hey congrats on getting into columbia!! hopefully i’ll get in too!!! thanks for your answer. my worries are now assuaged :D

Thanks dillbilly, good luck on the test today, and don’t forget to tell us how it went!

well, i can kiss my 750 on french goodbye! i actully feel i did much better on us history than french. thinking the french test would be like those i take in class, tests i dont’ study at all for, i focused entirely on history. but oh well. i think i might have gotten a 700+ on history! so its all good :D

I have a friend who got a 580 on French (and he’s taking IB French). So yet, it’s definitely a difficult and unpredictable test.

I think for Seas you should aim for a 700+ on either chem or phys and a 750+ on math 2

quick side note:

i have sat subject test scores, and i’d like to know if they were on par with columbia

us history:740
physics:700
math level 2: 780

Another side note, haha. How are these looking?

Bio (M): 800
Physics: 760
Lit: 760

Also, would I send all of these, or do they only want you to send two?

lol both of yours are fine. physics is on the low side, but if you’re not doing SEAS I’m sure that’s not very important
send as many as you like (if they’re good).

If we’re applying ED, can we still take SAT IIs in October and submit them in time?

yes they even accept the November Sats for ED.

epaminodas, are you entirely sure?? because applications are due before that, aren’t they?

yes, but they still accept it. But they are not guaranteed to see the scores; sometimes they are delayed.
