hey, just a bit please

So, hi. I'm 16, senior next year, and actually starting to freak out about all this crap (a step up from worrying).
Edit: Oh, and I'm chinese. I KNOW that's going to hurt me. :l

Unlike a lot of the other people here, I don't think I have very many EC's to talk about, and I don't know how much that will hurt me. I am absolutely determined to bring up my GPA and SAT scores senior year, but will that help? I'm not at home right now, so I only have information off the top of my head, but I hope it's enough.

Unweighted GPA- Somewhere between 3.0 and 3.3 I'll edit when I get home.
SAT- 2030, 700 math, 650 cr, 680 writing. aiming for 2200+ retake
SAT2's: Bio-e: 800 Math II: 750
AP's: AP US: 4 AP Bio: 5
Taking Honors/AP's except for random electives and regular english.

EC: 20~hours library volunteering
probably about 250-300 hrs. summer lab student volunteer by the end of the summer (what I'm doing right now :P)
going to do XC senior year (lol)

Schools:

Boston College- first choice, might do EA. Will my senior grades count AT ALL if I do EA?
Boston University-meh choice
Tufts
Brandeis
NYU

Any suggestions for colleges? Has to be in the Northeast.

I'll probably major in something bio related.

So, any suggestions or anything at all, say it please. Thanks a lot.

i think you have a good selection of schools, and if you can get your SATs up you'll have a really great shot at getting into them...good luck!

thanks...i think.

bump

I think you have a decent shot at all the schools you listed. The only one I truly think you're in at is BU. All the others are a lot more difficult and although you have a chance at all those schools, I can't make guarantees.

Other Schools in the NE with good bio programs include Colgate, Rochester, Trinity, Bates, and Vassar...there's probably others I'm missing.

There ya go. Don't forget to chance me

Great chances at all your schools with a higher SAT score. I'm looking at your subject test scores and that tells me you can most definitely do better on the SAT with some studying.
And no, your senior grade won't matter at all if you do ED.

Might look at Holy Cross-similar to Boston College.

Thanks guys. Keep em coming.

If you get 2200, I think that would compensate for your low GPA (relative to all the schools you are applying to with the exception of maybe BU). If you can get 2200, all of these schools would be match - high match range, with the exception of BU as your safety.

I'm also not sure if you should apply EA to Boston College as it is more selective than RD, though unless you do not go up on your SATS (because you need something to compensate for that GPA), i do not forsee you getting flat out rejected EA.

I would say, with what you have now, that your chances stand as listed below. Your SAT II's are fantastic, while your SAT I score is decent, and your GPA is a little lower than ideal. I would say the biggest issue you'll face with your application is your lack of extracurriculars. One way to potentially combat this would be to talk about (at some point in your application) what appears to be your main involvement: the research you're doing this summer. Also, if you improve your SAT scores, your chances at some of the schools will go up a bit (BU would probably be a likely and Brandeis & NYU could be considered closer to good fits). Bear in mind that these ratings are my own opinion and should not be taken as no more than one person's conjectures.

Boston College (EA)... SEMI-REACH.
Boston University... GOOD FIT.
Tufts University... REACH.
Brandeis University... SEMI-REACH.
New York University... SEMI-REACH.

And, some other places to consider in the Northeast & New York State...

REACH: Vassar College (NY), Wesleyan University (CT)

SEMI-REACH: College of the Holy Cross (MA), Trinity College (CT), University of Rochester (NY)

GOOD FIT: Skidmore College (NY), Fordham University (NY)

LIKELY: Northeastern University (MA), Providence College (RI), Union College (NY), Syracuse University (NY), Marist College (NY), Clark University (MA)

SAFETY: Quinnipiac University (CT), Hofstra University (NY)

Thanks for these guys.

I can't edit anymore, but my GPA is actually 3.35, which was surprising to myself haha.

Also, do you think it would be a good idea to retake my math SAT2? My mom thinks so, but I don't know what colleges would make of that. I know I could get 800, if that makes any difference.
