Hey Perro you gave us a great list analyzing the sororities. Very candid and blunt...and amusing. I know i'm going to get the "you'll find out first semester" lecture, but can we get one of those analyses for the frats?

Nah. I did the one for the sororities just for fun. I mean I'm not involved with a sorority, being a dude and all, so I can step back and make fun of them. But, me, I'm in a fraternity, and a lot of my dude friends are also in fraternities, and I don't think that I'd be able to do it justice. Also, idk sororities are just different, they really are just social clubs. So nah, no more stereotypes from me. Flattering though, glad you liked the post.

allright, i'll just have to coerce somebody else...

random subject change: what were emotions feelings fears etc. leading up to college over these last few weeks? Just like, what were you thinking? does anything stick out?

The last few weeks before college are kinda weird. There's excitement, there's fear, maybe even regret too. You know that a lot is going to change, and you can only hope that it's for the better. Maybe you were the popular guy in high school and don't want to leave your hometown. Maybe high school sucked and you are eager to start over. Or, more likely, somewhere between those two. But then it goes so fast, and you're there, and it's starting whether you want it to or not. You might feel like you're in over your head. Or you might feel like you've just had your leash cut. I know once I got to school and was all settled in, I thought "this is what i've been waiting for my whole life." Just enjoy the last few weeks. Do everything that you love to do in your hometown. Throw an end of summer party. Pack. Post incessantly on the C/O '09 boards. Then before you know it, you'll be at school. Just don't be too concerned about anything. Have fun. Meet a lot of people during orientation week. Explore campus. Hook up. Stay out of jail. That's pretty much it.

Very nice, Perro! Thank you once again.. I needed to read a post like that. :)

But since you've got a thread again I have to ask, how tough is Cornell on underage drinking? (Say outside the dorms.. would they ever raid a party like they looove to do in my hometown?)

Oh, thanks for the compliment. Haven't seen you around here in a while. :)

Cornell is not tough on underage drinking at all. Neither is the Ithaca police dept. CUPD will very rarely come into fraternity parties but ONLY in campus-owned houses (since they are university buildings). Even so, this is usually only to officially "shut the party down" due to a noise complaint and the cops don't even try to get anyone for underage drinking. And this happens quite rarely. In collegetown and in non-university-owned properties its even harder for the authorities to do anything. During orientation week if you go to a house party in c-town on any given night, cops will most likely show up and stand in the street. You can stand on the front lawn with a beer in your hand and wave at them (or shoot them the bird if you prefer) and they will not do anything. If you step onto the sidewalk with a beer, then they can get you...if they want. For the most part the police really don't care. They know that trying to prevent underage drinking is a stupid, losing battle which isnt worth their time. Their main interests are just public safety and the prevention of other crimes, like vandalism and fighting, which may arise from mass drunkeness. So all in all you have to be really stupid in order to get in any trouble simply for drinking. In fact, I only know of one person who has gotten in trouble for possession, and he was nabbed while walking up university in plain sight with a 30-pack in his hands...pretty stupid of him. So, short of anything truly moronic like that, it's quite hard to get busted for possession. Oh and as far as the dorms go, for the most part they don't care there either. Especially if you have a cool R.A.

A few years ago cops loved to bust frat parties but I'm not sure how it is now because I haven't been to one since junior year.

Their new fad is to bust parties in Collegetown. My housemates and I threw a bunch of parties throughout the year and the cops actually broke up one of them and fined us for noise violation or something.

Thanks for the post on those weeks before CU. I'm kinda freakin' out about leaving behind friends, family, familiar life, dog, cat and long-time girlfriend. Yeah, feelings of regret occur. I just hope it will be worth it!! :S

You dumpin' the old lady? If you havent/arent going to, I'd go ahead and do that unless its something reeeeeeally special. If it is, youre gonna have to work hard to keep it going long-distance.

i didnt know u couldnt carry around alchol, even sealed in a box ,...good to know

Dumpin' the old lady? Wow, I don't really want to! It'll probably end up happening, just because so many people have told me it will. I've been dating her for many years. She's so pretty! ;). They probably won't be that good AND in my range over at CU!

Wait, when did I say you could walk around campus with a crate of booze? Did I miss something?

And yeah jerew if she's anything good to look at I'd go ahead and hold onto that since, you're right, it's probably better than anything you will dredge up at school. Long distance things either work or they don't; you will know real quick which way it's gonna go.

Nice advice perro.......

:)

Dredge up?! :( I like beautiful women, though!

~Thinks again about going to Cornell.....~

I hope more than anything it works. I know this is a very common saga amongst people leaving so far for such good schools. If Cornell sucked, I would not feel bad about using relationships as a good reason to stay, but it is just too hard to turn that school down!

so if we're used to being around alot of attractive people, is cornell really as bad as they say it is? or close to it?

I'd like a quick run-through of some of the more recognizable frats on campus... you could post it anonymously...

I dunno, there certainly attractive people at Cornell, but coming from a high school with a lot of attractive people it seemed that there were less than I was used to. And compared to state schools, especially in the south, it's just no contest. But one school cant have everything, now can it?
