Hey, want to to help a high school student with a survey?

Hi everybody!

I am just trying to get some people to answer some questions in a survey. The survey involves questions about food resources and agriculture and anybody can answer these questions. This survey is need for my AP Environmental Science class. The questions can involve a simple word answer. If you have additional opinions with your answers, feel free to express them. At least 20 people are needed for this survey.

So here are the questions!

1) What type of fruits and vegetables do you usually purchase: organic or conventional?

2) Do you know what “organically-grown” means?

3) Should genetic-modified food products be labeled?

4) Do you think that genetically-modified food has a different food quality than conventionally grown food?

5) What type of food do you think is healthier: organic or conventional?

6) Do you mind that some organically-grown food products are more expensive than conventional products?

7) Should we increase or decrease the input of water into agriculture?

8) Should the United States distribute more food products to developing nations?

9) Should more or less livestock be raised in the United States?

10) Should more or less land be given to livestock?

11) Should the U.S. government increase or decrease regulations on fish harvesting?

12) Does it matter to you of how crops and livestock are grown and raised?

1/Conventional
2/No
3/Yes
4/Yes i think it is better
5/conventional
6/Yes
7/Keep it the same
8/No
9/I think that less livestock should be raised in the u.s because we have way too much here in texas
10/more
11/increase
12/not at all as long as they taste good

ill help you out

Usually conventional. We only buy organic Tofu

Naturally grown and with no human interference I believe

Yes.

Yes

I think they're about the same

I don't mind.

Decrease to force farms to use water more efficiently

Yes if it is food that they are used to and that it gets to the people.

More livestock

More land

Increase Regulatioins

Yes. Whatever is healthier/better for me.

1) What type of fruits and vegetables do you usually purchase: organic or conventional?
organic

2) Do you know what “organically-grown” means?
yes, that there were no pesticides or other chemicals used to grow them
**
3) Should genetic-modified food products be labeled?
**yes

4) Do you think that genetically-modified food has a different food quality than conventionally grown food?
I think that it is possible that they could be harmful to your health

5) What type of food do you think is healthier: organic or conventional?
organic

6) Do you mind that some organically-grown food products are more expensive than conventional products?
I understand why they are more expensive, but I do wish they were cheaper.

7) Should we increase or decrease the input of water into agriculture?
I don't really know anything about this, but I would say keep it the same

8) Should the United States distribute more food products to developing nations?
Yes, but at the same time it's more important to teach them how to grow the food products on their own. So I would say yes distribute food, but also teach them the skills to be able to produce the food in large quantities on their own with in maybe 10 years.

9) Should more or less livestock be raised in the United States?
More livestock

10) Should more or less land be given to livestock?
I would say more land, but where would that land come from? You can't just cut back on houses, or go into land preservations. If you have available land, then go ahead. But otherwise make sure that the land available is used efficiently.

11) Should the U.S. government increase or decrease regulations on fish harvesting?
Definitally increase regulations, because now there are so many problems, like those in the Chesapeake Bay with the Blue Crabs and other animals there. But those also stem from pollution that comes from the runoff of fertilizers that farms and houses use. But I do think that overfishing is a problem in many different areas.

12) Does it matter to you of how crops and livestock are grown and raised?
Yes it does.

1) What type of fruits and vegetables do you usually purchase: organic or conventional?
organic

2) Do you know what “organically-grown” means?
yes

3) Should genetic-modified food products be labeled?
YES

4) Do you think that genetically-modified food has a different food quality than conventionally grown food?
maybe

5) What type of food do you think is healthier: organic or conventional?
organic

6) Do you mind that some organically-grown food products are more expensive than conventional products?
no

7) Should we increase or decrease the input of water into agriculture?
haha i have no idea but ill say increase?

8) Should the United States distribute more food products to developing nations?
no-we have starving people right here

9) Should more or less livestock be raised in the United States?
more

10) Should more or less land be given to livestock?
more

11) Should the U.S. government increase or decrease regulations on fish harvesting?
increase

12) Does it matter to you of how crops and livestock are grown and raised?
yes

for number 7 i really dont know though- i mean i guess if u have water shortages it would be a problem

1) What type of fruits and vegetables do you usually purchase: organic or conventional?
I usually buy conventional, although I prefer organic.

2) Do you know what “organically-grown” means?
Yes

3) Should genetic-modified food products be labeled?
Yes I think there should be some labeling system.

4) Do you think that genetically-modified food has a different food quality than conventionally grown food?
Yes, I think they do have a different quality. They are modified to be "perfect"

5) What type of food do you think is healthier: organic or conventional?
Organic is healthier.

6) Do you mind that some organically-grown food products are more expensive than conventional products?
Yes, they should not be so expensive. I buy them when I can, but often the price difference is too much
7) Should we increase or decrease the input of water into agriculture?
Probably decrease... but I really don't know enough to really say.

8) Should the United States distribute more food products to developing nations?
Some food should be delivered, but helping them raise the food would be more helpfull.

9) Should more or less livestock be raised in the United States?
Less. Use the resources and land to produce food to feed far more people then are currently supported.

10) Should more or less land be given to livestock?
Less.

11) Should the U.S. government increase or decrease regulations on fish harvesting?
Increase.

12) Does it matter to you of how crops and livestock are grown and raised?
Yes it does.

1) What type of fruits and vegetables do you usually purchase: organic or conventional?
Conventional
2) Do you know what “organically-grown” means?
Yes
3) Should genetic-modified food products be labeled?
If the producers care to
4) Do you think that genetically-modified food has a different food quality than conventionally grown food?
Yes its probably better
5) What type of food do you think is healthier: organic or conventional?
Tough call..Conventional. **
6) Do you mind that some organically-grown food products are more expensive than conventional products?
**Don't care

7) Should we increase or decrease the input of water into agriculture?
Increase
8) Should the United States distribute more food products to developing nations?
The government, no.
9) Should more or less livestock be raised in the United States?
Less. Countries like Argentina are better suited to grow livestock. It makes more sense to distribute specialization of labor accordinig to your land.
10) Should more or less land be given to livestock?
Depends on the growers.
11) Should the U.S. government increase or decrease regulations on fish harvesting?
Decrease
12) Does it matter to you of how crops and livestock are grown and raised?
As long as they are not grown on a toxic waste dump, I am fine with everything else

Ok I can already see this coming. People will call me an idiot for prefering conventional over organic. Yes, organic uses less pesticide. But here is the catch. The pesticides in conventional food are already heavily regulated, not cumulative in your body, and not toxic in the amounts that you ingest.

1) What type of fruits and vegetables do you usually purchase: organic or conventional? conventional

2) Do you know what “organically-grown” means? I think it means no pesticides, no growth hormones, etc, but I could be wrong.

3) Should genetic-modified food products be labeled? It depends on genetic modifications. If you include selective breeding, no. If you mean hormones, pesticides, etc. then yes.

4) Do you think that genetically-modified food has a different food quality than conventionally grown food? Of course, that's why they genetically modify food, to alter the quality.

5) What type of food do you think is healthier: organic or conventional? Again, it depends on how they modify it. If they add preservatives and stuff, organic, but if they add vitamins (kind of like fluoride to water) then conventional.

6) Do you mind that some organically-grown food products are more expensive than conventional products? I wouldn't pay more for organic products.

7) Should we increase or decrease the input of water into agriculture? I would think that more water is better, so yes.

8) Should the United States distribute more food products to developing nations? Yes.

9) Should more or less livestock be raised in the United States? More.

10) Should more or less land be given to livestock? More.

11) Should the U.S. government increase or decrease regulations on fish harvesting? It depends on the regulations, but I would say yes.

12) Does it matter to you of how crops and livestock are grown and raised? Not really.

1) What type of fruits and vegetables do you usually purchase: organic or conventional?
both
2) Do you know what “organically-grown” means?
yes
3) Should genetic-modified food products be labeled?
yes
4) Do you think that genetically-modified food has a different food quality than conventionally grown food?
no

5) What type of food do you think is healthier: organic or conventional?
very little difference
6) Do you mind that some organically-grown food products are more expensive than conventional products?
yes
7) Should we increase or decrease the input of water into agriculture?
increase
8) Should the United States distribute more food products to developing nations?
if we have an excess sure
9) Should more or less livestock be raised in the United States?
less
10) Should more or less land be given to livestock?
less
11) Should the U.S. government increase or decrease regulations on fish harvesting?
increase
12) Does it matter to you of how crops and livestock are grown and raised?
yes

Conventional

yes

yes

no

little difference

no

increase

if we have excess

more

more

increase

yes

1) conventional
2) yes
3) sure
4) it depends on how it was modified (since some species are modified for growing time/climate, others for taste, and others for nutitional content)
5) about the same
6) yes
7) What exactly are you asking with this question? Isn't that something decided by individual farms and/or mother nature?
8) if we have an excess - and its always better if this is done by private organizations rather than the government
9) the same
10) the same
11) increase
12) not really

11) Don't know
12) Nope....as long as it's safe.

1) conventional
2) yes
3) no
4) no, that's stupid
5) neither is healthier
6) I don't buy them, so I don't care
7) Neither
8) Hell no. Why should they? It's their food, not the developing countries'. (no, I'm not American)
9) It's fine how it is.
10) Keep it the same.
11) Increase.
12) No.

1) What type of fruits and vegetables do you usually purchase: organic or conventional?

*I really don't know but I think conventional. My mom does all the shopping for food and I never asked her. *

2) Do you know what “organically-grown” means?

I belive organic means without any fertilizer or chemicals although I might be wrong.

3) Should genetic-modified food products be labeled?

Only if they have any effect whatsoever, even minor, on the human body but even then some might find it convinient to know so why not.

4) Do you think that genetically-modified food has a different food quality than conventionally grown food?

I don't even know what type of food I am eating so I wouldn't know. I however assumed that none modified food likely is healthier that modified food.

5) What type of food do you think is healthier: organic or conventional?

Organic

6) Do you mind that some organically-grown food products are more expensive than conventional products?

Yes. Living in Chicago is extremely expensive.

7) Should we increase or decrease the input of water into agriculture?

Increase I suppose. What effect does water have anyway?

8) Should the United States distribute more food products to developing nations?

Sure, why not? Are there any side effects other than profit?

9) Should more or less livestock be raised in the United States?

More.I really have no idea what the benefits of either choice are as well as the cons.

10) Should more or less land be given to livestock?

Well if were going to grow more I guess we should increase the land.

11) Should the U.S. government increase or decrease regulations on fish harvesting?

I think they should increase. That would make the food healthier right?

12) Does it matter to you of how crops and livestock are grown and raised?

Only if one has bad side effects compared to the other method. My main concern is health effects.

Conventional

yes

Yes

No
5) Neither
6) No
7) ?
8) Yes
9) Less
10) More
11) Increase
12) Yes

Wow! A lot of responses here! Thank you all for helping me with my homework. If more people want to answer the survey, then by all means answer. Once again, thanks for helping me out.

1) What type of fruits and vegetables do you usually purchase: organic or conventional? Conventional, but I try to organic as much as possible.

2) Do you know what “organically-grown” means? yes

3) Should genetic-modified food products be labeled? yes

4) Do you think that genetically-modified food has a different food quality than conventionally grown food? yes

5) What type of food do you think is healthier: organic or conventional? organic

6) Do you mind that some organically-grown food products are more expensive than conventional products? yes, I would buy organic more often if it cost a little less

7) Should we increase or decrease the input of water into agriculture? decrease

8) Should the United States distribute more food products to developing nations? if we have more than we need, sure.

9) Should more or less livestock be raised in the United States? less. we have enough already.

10) Should more or less land be given to livestock? less

11) Should the U.S. government increase or decrease regulations on fish harvesting? increase

12) Does it matter to you of how crops and livestock are grown and raised? yes

1) organic is better, especially when it comes from the farmer's market. I like to buy there because a) I think it's better and b) they have amazing perogies (and crepes). mmm crepes.

2) less/no pesticides, chemicals or genetic modification

3) yes

4) to some extent... if I knew which was which I would not pick the gmo food because of psycological reasons probably... those huge apples are creepy. :)

5) when it comes to fruits/veggies, there probably isn't a huge difference. "organic" sounds healthier, and probably is, but if you're eating fresh veggies and fruits in place of processed stuff, good for you!

6) no

7) it should stay the same or decrease. in 50 years, the world is going to be governed by water instead of oil. or so they're saying... hmm

8) definetly, especially because we produce a surplus anyways.

9) less. buy more from Alberta and improve the canadian economy. also, the steroids pumped into a lot of US cattle on those mass-farming sites can't be very healthy. I think that raising livestock could also be used to improve the economies in developping countries (we buy from them to help their industries grow). we (the western world) have way too many subsidies for farmers, and an increase in livestock would mean an increase in subsidies, leading away from the progress being made at the DOHA rounds (WTO talks about agricultural subsidies + etc). I had this as a topic for MUN, if you're wondering... :)

10) it should stay the same or we should give them a bit less, but not to the extent that they are crowded and the living conditions decrease. also, we should absolutely not give away farming land to make room for urban sprawl. nature is a good thing.

11) whatever makes it healthier for the fish and the people... more regulations I suppose.

12) yes. I'm not one of those crazy extreme vegetarian people, I eat meat and I think people should if they want to. I do disagree, however, with the mistreatment of animals (and people) in the name of profit. Healthier animals have got to make healthier products anyways.

Well, Alright!!!

Got all of the information that I need! So no more people are needed for this survey. Finally, thank you all that have help with my homework. Thank you!
