Should I apply?

My gut is telling me that I should apply to W&M. It keeps telling me to "just apply, you never know what could happen..."

First off, I go to the number 7 school in texas and the number 38 in the nation. Its super competitive and Newsweek says my school "is frequently honored by Newsweek, U.S. News and World Report, Texas Business and Education Coalition, Just for the Kids, and other organizations as one of the best high schools in America". Even though I don't have the best GPA compared to the other students in my class, I believe it's pretty good.

STATS:

I'm so sorry if that was long, I promise I only have one more question. I had a 3.7-3.8 up until my junior year, and I had a very traumatic experience studying abroad, and I wanted to know if it'd be appropriate to write my essay on how that experience has shaped me into a more positive person. I don't want to write a story about fluff, that the admissions office I'm sure gets all the time (like about how I saved cancer patients and I run around at night in spandex saving the world-haha).

Thanks yall! If I dont have a shot at all, please tell me so I can know and not get heartbroken. :)
