Hi, First time taken as Junior, 2000.

Hello, I am a Junior in High school and I took my first SAT this October and received a score of 2000.

CR : 610; I missed 4 hard vocabs, 1 easy vocab, and 11 Passage based ones (0 Easy, 7 medium, and 4 Difficult). (total of 16).

Math : 730; I missed 1 hard Algebra and Functions and 2 Data Analysis, Stats, and Probability ( total of 3).

WR : 660; I missed 1 medium Improving sentences, 2 hard Identifying Errors, and 1 Medium Improving Paragraphs. I got an 8 on the essay (I b/s-ed it..) (total of 4).

I would like to finish my SAT stuff in Junior year with a score of 2250~2300.

I honestly never read novels for "fun" but for "requirements" for school.
I subscribed to Times Magazine though, and am trying to start reading it in the bathroom.
I bought the direct hits vocab books but didnt know how to study them effectively and just gave up.. (bad habit).

So far I have only done 2 books: Princeton Review 11 Test sets and Kaplan 11 Test sets during summer.

I really want to get my Math score to 800, CR to at least 700 and WR over 730 with a better Essay score (I need help with Essay writing because I always run out of time).

Please CC people! Help me with your tips and experiences ! How should I study to reach my desired goal, and when should I retake the SAT?

Thank you ~!!

You seem to have it all figured out … just keep practicing :)

You just have to force yourself to learn the words. The DH books are surprisingly easy (and interesting) reads. Will your way through both volumes and be sure to constantly review. I’ve found that TIME uses a lot of words from DH. Try incorporating new words into speech (or writing, if you fear sounding too smart in front of parents/friends).

You’ll probably want to invest in the College Board’s Official SAT Study Guide (it’s a large, blue book). The most realistic questions come from the test maker.

Explore CC. Check the SAT Prep Forum religiously; you’d be surprised how many questions that other people ask apply to yourself. The feedback you get on CC (both the amount and the quality) surpasses pretty much anything you can get in person.

Whenever you’re not busy. I took my first (and only) SAT in December 2010 because I ruled out pretty much all other test dates: I was too busy for January and March. I would be doing Subject Tests in May. I wouldn’t be motivated to study for the June test. I didn’t have any school breaks before the October and November tests during which I could practice/relax. The December test came a week after my weeklong Thanksgiving Break, so that was the logical test date.

Use the same logic to determine which test date will allow you the most time to prepare and to be in the best mental shape.
