Hi I am new and I need help looking for a college/major

Hey I am a Sophomore and I am in my third Quarter and my GPA is a 2.9. I will Finnish off strong though My freshman year my overall was a B it was a 3.1 or 3.4. (I cant find my old report cards)
I want to go into the medical field. I want to make thing that's will help people. I want to make a drug, cure, or some sort of new device that can help improve a persons health. I was thinking about getting a Biomedical or Bioengineering major. I want to go to good college but I don't know what a good college is. Many colleges I have seen don't have these majors at all so what would I substitute them with? Do I have to do to medical school of I get a Biomedical Major or anything like that?
Also how high can I possible raise my GPA to get into a excellent college and still get all the Majors I want to do what I want to do?
If you need me to clarify anything I said or wrote or if this is in a wrong forum I will gladly add or change it.
Also I have another year what should I do so I can improve my chances of getting accepted.
I will take the SAT but is there any thing else I can do?
I have had summer jobs before and have letters of recommendation from them?
I play guitar but someone recommended I learn cello because I can get a scholarship just for playing cello. (Should I start teaching myself that? I cant afford lessons so I will teach myself)

There’s a pre-med forum you might want to read or search through to get ideas. Mostly you will have to wait to see what your SAT scores are to get a sense of what schools are possible. Also use the search function to look for 'biomedical engineering" in the college search forum. If your grades aren’t good enough to get directly into those programs maybe you could major in biology or engineering and transfer into BME.

You won’t get a scholarship for playing cello… Unless you are one of the top in your state.

At schools where getting into one major is more difficult than getting into another, students typically have to apply to change into the popular majors that are more difficult to get into. This can require a high college GPA.
