I thought it would be fun if son got a computer webcam so we could see each other when we talked, once he went away to school. Not sure how he'd feel...didn't seem to mind when I suggested it...but that's now...

S1 has a MacBook Pro with a built in camera. We do video chats from time to time and really enjoy it. Since the campus is wireless, they can occur from almost anywhere.

I'm glad I wasn't too out-of-the-norm when I had that idea, myself! :-)

The one and only time S connected his laptop to mine by Skype from his campus he started from his dorm and made a mini tour of the campus carrying his opened laptop face out. I saw the grounds, a bunch of buildings inside and out, and hundreds of students, -and the students who looked saw me. A few even waved or said hi! Sort of a personal virtual tour. S never put his face to the camera, and there has never been another Skype call.

Cornell has webcam all over the campus. They do have one that's "Hi Mom" bench webcam. I check on it daily to see what the weather is like.

Same with my parents. The Engineering quad cam actually lets you freely pan and zoom without using presets.

Wow, UW looks pretty. Had no idea.

@BunsenBurner , the UW cam is now streaming live!

(Sorry for bumping a very old thread.)
Cool. Thanks for posting that!
It would never have occurred to me to ask my daughter to go there and wave. Just no. Not our style.
7 year old thread. Start a new thread if so inclined. Closing.
