While looking at the Michigan parents webpage on Parent to Parent advice just had a really good laugh. 'Parents should sign up for Instant Messaging" or “Use E-mail so not to intrude with phone calls.”
My daughter would be like “What’s Instant Messaging?” And “Why wouldn’t you text”
I think this advice was written a good 10 years ago! Though there is still other good advice on there about dealing with the empty nest.
I just think it’s funny how quickly this sort of advice can get dated in our fast moving world. Once upon a time advice about contacting ones child at school would have remained relevant for years and years. Now these sorts of things probably need to be updated more often.
My high school freshmen D just mentioned this morning that she does not use facebook frequently but something else. She said only older students like her sister (freshmen in college) use facebook all the time. So it is a kind of outdated.
I’ve been hearing that FB was outdated since I was a sophomore in college… and yet, it still seems that the vast majority of undergrads get one once they start college ;). It’s just easier to be plugged in if you have a FB.
