I thought everyone might appreciate this story in the USA Today about the proliferation of webcams on campus "just for us moms." http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/2006-12-04-mom-cams_x.htm

The latest accessory - just in time for Christmas. Get one for the Helicopter Mom in your life.

Hmm. I can barely get DS to go pick up packages that he wants. I can't imagine him being willing to go stand in front of the Mom cam...nice idea but not likely that my kid would ever use it.

What will they think of next? Maybe via satellite, mom can cook dinner and do the kid's laundry too?

Once I told my son that I was delighted to watch the campus every day thanks to the web cam, and then he said that he remembers to avoid those places just in case I could see him.;)

My husband had a funny story to tell after setting up a webcam for a mother with a freshman college student. As soon as the camera setup was working, the boy came in, sat down at his computer, and looked at the webcam with his one good eye. The other eye was bruised shut, and he was swathed in bandages. Seems he had taken up skateboarding that afternoon, with some sad results. The poor Mom! (and kid!)

This is just ridiculous!

I've heard of kids spelling out in large signs for the web cam to see -- SEND MONEY

I did this about 7 years ago with a friend at school in the Midwest. It was pretty cool THEN.

Don't they mean, "trolling" ? :D

That's nothing - Penn State has 6 LionCams. It would be hard to pick out an individual kid, however.

Great - now I can be ignored by my kid on camera as well as on AIM/internet etc. But seriously - good lord - people need to learn to let go a little bit. And I thought I was bad - I am going to send this link to my D - ask her if they have one at her school (they don't) - might freak her out a bit though - LOL

Incredible.

And I DO NOT care if my son has gotten a haircut. :)

Cressmom, those would be my S's sentiments, exactly.

Son's freshman year, Mother's Day, the phone call comes and I am directed to the school's webpage camera link. There are 3 boys in front of the fountain holding a painted sign; Happy Mother's Day Mom!
What a great gift. I printed that page!

As one poster who rues the "helicopter" phenonenon, I think this cam is cute. Now for the Dad cam at The Haunt!!!

Truly incredible. And I am SURE my S hasn't gotten a haircut! :D

maybe next they'll install baby monitors in the dorm rooms so Mom's can keep track remotely of what goes on in there.

That’s funny! But I’d like to have a web cam at the cafeteria because my S is getting each time skinnier; he is doing the “freshman fifteen” in reverse. :(

That is priceless!!!!!
