If my family's EFC is high, does it make any sense to go through with sending in tax returns to IDOC, and updating FAFSA with current tax return info? Will the schools just think that we have decided to not apply for financial aide? Is that OK? Should we contact the schools? Never done this before, so any help is appreciated. THanks

Correct me if I’m wrong…but if your schools are using IDOC, they also must have required the CSS Profile, right? If that is the case, you have no way to know if they will award you aid…or not as their formula is not the same as the FAFSA one.

AND you need to check a couple of things:

Will your school(s) allow you to apply for institutional need based aid in subsequent years if you do not APPLY this year? Some schools will not allow you to. Check to be sure.

Are you in the running for merit aid? If so, does YOUR school require submissions of financial aid application materials for merit aid consideration…some do and some don’t.

Ok thanks thumper. Yes only 2 schools needed IDOC info. I will try to e-mail financial aide offices and see if I can get some answers. It may be easier to just do the updates, so in the future we will be set.
