High GPA but Low SAT??

Privatebanker, test optional schools are not really test optional for most students. They are test optional if you are full pay. The purpose of the test optional option was to help the smaller private schools accept more full pay students who would do fine in the school but whose test scores would tank the school’s ranking on the ranking lists that, at the time, included test scores in their calculation of rank.

There is zero need for this poster to apply to test optional schools. Those are all solid scores.
Admissions can be very unpredictable. My daughter got accepted to Cornell COE ED with very similar scores. We can only guess what it was in her application that made the difference (LORs? Essays? Summer research? ECs related to major?) but what we do know is that her SAT verbal (CR/W, whatever they are called now) didn’t keep her from getting accepted.

@mom2twogirls Thank you so much!! It is very impressive your daughter got accepted to Cornell! She must’ve worked super hard! Congratulations!

@debateat
GTech has automatic admission for valedictorians of the class. But I’m assuming you’re a GA resident.

@emorynavy yes I found out recently that GT has an automatic acceptance for Vals which is crazy lmao. I don’t want to attend GT necessarily (considering what I want to pursue), but who knows what will happen?

@lostaccount Interesting. I thought colleges decided to go test optional so that they could bring in students who might be first generation or URM or from underrepresented states or who were great athletes. It’s all a big mystery to me.

@citymama9 I honestly thought colleges decided to go test optional bc they didn’t get donations from college board + other reasons LMAO

You are on the lower range of act scores for the most selective colleges in the US, but I wouldn’t worry

@jameshomies yep : ( I really really hope they kind of “bunch up” my gpa and test scores or something like that. idk. lol. we’ll see hahaha
