Hi every, just got a letter from CSULB this afternoon, I got in the waitlist (and I'm feeling really sad now.)

transfer student (I'm current student at Irvine Valley College (community college)).
GPA: 3.95
major: computer science.

Okay, this is not to show up. The problem is I didn't get into CSULB (wailist is so risky).
I will complete the "4 golden goals" (on mentors) courses at the end of this Spring.
Complete IGETC by the end of this Spring.
Basically I think I fulfill that cal-state requirements.

I'm a dirt poor student and just want a place to complete my college degree, haven't got accepted to anywhere else, but now I got a kind of reject letter, and it really concerns me. I don't want to study far from home because I don't have much money, and basically I just want go to the nearest college.

Is anyone on the same situation? This is really sad to me.

Did you apply to any other schools to transfer? If you did, I’m sure you will make it somewhere with your high GPA! I saw the stats for transfer and it seems like around 4,000 got accepted but only half of them were admitted. Though this is a general statistics for admissions so I’m not sure how many of them are in computer science for your case. I wish you the best!

I don’t know how CSUF do their thing, but I’m sure you would get into at least CSULA. Give it some time :-). It’s still the beginning of February. Heck, the UC system doesn’t even notify til like mid march/april!

Holy cow, with those stats I thought you’d be safe at CSULB and in at most mid/high level UC schools. Maybe Comp Sci is just that competitive? In any case I think you have a great chance at Pomona, and their Comp Sci program is probably the most solid of the three.

How on earth do you not get in??? I’m also a computer sci major
Im also going to community college(LBCC). and My GPA is only 3.5
And i just got accepted yesterday.
Did you complete all the major requirement courses? (not just the GE, but require course for Computer Sci)
Computer Sci is a pretty competitive. And I believe you need some upper division class for it (Calculus 2/3 and Mechanical/Electrical Physic?).

Based what they recommend on their Computer department website, yes!
I’m done Calculus I II III, C, C++, Java, Discrete mathematic, Differential equation. 1/2 assembly language (it has two courses, I’m done with one, taking the other this semester.)
Done two writing classes.
Has two Ws (maybe this is the reason.) or maybe because I don’t have data struture (they don’t ask for electrical physics?).
Taking Linear algebra, General physics, Speech.

CSULB is really random at times with admissions. I know a few people who didn’t get in and got into UCLA and UCSB. Have you heard from Pomona? Check the portal everyday they take forever to email you. As well as CSULA they post admissions on portal first and take a while to notify.

Anyway don’t loose hope you GPA is very high and your pretty much golden for all of the other schools you applied to CSULB just happens to be a bit random

@collegewaiter I applied as a first time freshman, so I’m not very familiar with transfer requirements. However, I do believe I saw someone on a different thread say that CSULB is one of the very few CSUs that requires transfers to have ALREADY completed their Golden 4 at the time you apply to to get admitted. Don’t quote me on that, however, because like I said, I’m not a transfer, so I didn’t necessarily memorize all the transfer requirements :)) . Sorry to hear you were waitlisted, hopefully it will end up in your favor. CSULB is very strange when it comes to admission decisions, and it almost seems to be like a lottery at times. Good luck to you!

why are you feeling so bad? with a gpa like that i’m sure you applied to other schools. and seeing as your dirt poor you should qualify for fin aid. if not, student loans. this is not the end of the world dude.youre crying over nothing
