I go to a #1 public charter school in GA.
My GPA is 4.0 but my class rank is relatively low. Right now I am at about 25/250 but students in my school drop out because the classes are hard. By senior year, I will probably be only at about 25/140. I’m extremely worried that this will hurt my applications greatly since almost all of the top schools applicants are in the top 10% of their class. I will only be around top 20% at my school. By the way, my school reports class rank in quintiles(in intervals of 20%) when applying to colleges. Also, there is a chance that I may be in the second quintile (40%) since alot of people are taking more ap classes than me. How much will this hurt my apps?
Thank you.
Depends on the school. Look at the Common Data Set for your school list, Section C7. Some don’t consider rank, some look at it more favorably than grades. BTW, that’s some fierce grade inflation you have there.
Check where the students between 20-40% of your school went in the last few years. It would be a useful reference for you.
Is that 4.0 weighted or unweighted? If it’s unweighted then 25% of the class is tied at 4.0? Wow. If it’s weighted, then I can understand that. What is your unweighted GPA?
@me29034 It is 4.0 UNWEIGHTED. Some people that are ranked higher than me may not have a 4.0 (since they could have gotten one B).
@“Erin’s Dad” Wow, all of the schools I want to apply to considers class rank to be VERY IMPORTANT
My chances just became really slim, I suppose.
