My GPA is 4.0 unweighted. I take honors classes. My school only has 1 AP class.
I've been in the Drama club for 3 years
I'm in the top 25% in my Senior class
I've been volunteering at two places every week (about 10 hours a week) for a year now.
I've got some great recommendations from teachers.

My SAT score is a 1700 ...

Math: 490
Writing: 600
Reading: 610

I turn into a zombie when it comes to SAT math.

The schools I want to apply to:

Purdue University (under either Journalism or Elementary Education) NOT ENGINEERING
University of Connecticut (Storrs) "
University of Massachusetts - Amherst ( Journalism )
University of South Carolina - Columbia "
Indiana University - Bloomington "

Out-of-State for all.

Be truthful- I won't be offended! I'll be sad, but not offended c:

why not make some efforts and also sim for a higher writing score? I think you can improvr your score by at least 400-550. With a higher SAT score you’ll definitly have something to negotiate. Then aim higher~

Do you mean a higher math score? I’ve taken the SATs twice now and I have not been able to break 500 on math. Math just doesn’t run in my blood. My SAT teacher at school basically gave up on me saying, “You’re the first Asian I’ve met who is this bad at math.”

Plus, early app deadlines are coming up and I’m not sure if I have the time to retake…

How have you gotten A’s in math classes then? Chances at Purdue great with those stats, although Journalism might be easier (since if you became a teacher, you’d still need to teach math).

Well, The math classes I do well at are Statistics, Geometry, Pre-Algebra, and Consumer math. I think the gradual studying in school helps me out a lot.

On the other hand, I didn’t do so well in Algebra 1 (B) and Algebra 2 (C). I had the same teacher for both and her method of teaching was “give them the formula and give them the homework.” I don’t blame her for anything, cause a lot of people learned just fine like that.

I think SAT math comes harder for me because it brings in math from random high school years and I tend to mix things up with math really easily, so I end up using the wrong formula…or doing a step wrong.

Purdue University - match, i think?
University of Connecticut (Storrs) you need to get your SAT scores way up
University of Massachusetts - Amherst -reach
University of South Carolina - Columbia -reach
Indiana University - Bloomington idk

You need to get your SAT scores way up. No AP classes also doesn’t look that good…

Thank you! I think I’ll try retaking the SATs in December to try and boost my SAT score.

C: As for AP classes, I’ve explained in a separate essay that my school only started offering AP classes in my junior year and so far there are only 2: Physics and Calculus. I couldn’t join the AP Physics this year because then I had to quit my Statistics class (I needed the math credit) and I wasn’t qualified for AP Calc. because I hadn’t taken Pre-Calc. I’ve joined quite a few honors classes, though, so I hope that helps…
