Does being a member of a High IQ society help in med school admissions?

Gosh no. If anything, listing it will be a negative.

Give me your lunch money, nerd.

Mensa club and other such IQ clubs are just ridiculous.

^ 37

I thought they wanted smart students. IQ is just another measure of intelligence as is the MCAT. Is it the perceived arrogance of such a club?

the only thing a high IQ should tell you is that you're better off doing something more intellectually stimulating with your life than going to medical school.

^ troll much?

not trolling, just remembering something i read about the average IQs of various professions.

yeah whatever, give us sources and THEN we'll take you seriously :)

Mensa is for chumps-try the giga society; the only problem is that none of the members have ever accomplished anything but score high on IQ tests-that is their only talent :-)

Giga Society

@ MolSysBio: and interesting remark, seeing as how MDs have the highest average IQ of just about any occupation. Just google, 'IQ of various professions' and see what comes up.

whatever you say, doc. just keep telling yourself that when you're giving your next rectal exam.

"People with average IQ's of 120 tend to staff the professions as doctors, dentists, lawyers, teachers, and college professors. They fall in the upper 10% of the population. The average IQ of all college professors is 130, which lies within the upper 3% of the general public."

MolSysBio, I don't know where you got that from, but this is what I found:

^"at the very bottom" meaning they have the highest IQ, just to clarify. ("at the very bottom" sounds like they are the dumbest)

Stop arguing over such inaccurate measurements such as the IQ test. It's way too discriminative and correlates much with socioeconomic status, not with intelligence. Mensa is just for people who want to feel good about themselves, which is why you don't see many nobel prize winners or anyone that makes large contributions to society claim they are mensa or have a high IQ. Random media spurges sometimes attempt to publicize IQs but that's just the media trying to win over people. Go take a real test, and NO, do not include it with your medical school application, less you want people to just laugh at you and label you as arrogant.

fine, but i'm still smarter than phillysaser08.

and my dad can beat up your dad

you obviously haven't seen my dad. think kimbo slice, but bigger and scarier.

phillySASer08's dad is Chuck Norris. Sorry, but he's gonna kick your dad's butt.
