cathyl111 - I’m surprised that if they already know the COA for next year they haven’t already told families of current students. Does this 6% increase fall in line with previous increases? Just trying to best-guess estimate future years. Thanks …

I have been checking the website, and it has not been updated. They may have told the students, but mothers of boys will know that they don’t tell you much.

I think the year before my son started the cost was about $2,000 less. It seems like a $2,000 increase is what they are doing again. The cost is starting to get a little out-of-reach. We could not do it if it was not for the scholarship. In addition as a resident of North Carolina, my son receives a North Carolina tuition grant of about $1,900 each year.

Despite the cost, we are thrilled with the school so far. It is a very good fit for our son.

A 6 perecent increase is in line with the national average. I think $2,000 a year increase is reasonable considering what it could be. Davidson, Duke, Wake Forest etc are all increasing by more than that.

I don’t think anyone should be concerned with the GPA requirements. If your son or daughter had the discipline in high school to get the grades, they should have that same drive to get the grades now. Yes the classes are harder and I’ll agree that some professors are better than others. Thats the same with any college. I think some students may find the transition difficult, however with all that is going on at HPU, you won’t have time to think about the transition. I think most students will find the transition to be easy. The first couple weeks of college is always the hardest because you don’t know what to expect.

I’ll be transferring into HPU as a junior this fall as a business finance major. I can say that college professors do make a difference. Teaching style, preference, grading, etc. However, not as much to be worried about grades.

What I’m still wondering about is financial packages. Has anyone got anything in the mail? Basically what I’m looking for is a sheet that has on it, how much you’ll get from scholarships, grants, federal aid, etc and what the bottom line is. I’d like to start applying for loans.

Does anyone know if the student on a merit scholarship at High Point needs to maintain the stated GPA each semester or is it based on an academic year? (If they receive a 3.20 in semester # 1 and receive a 3.50 in semester #2, do they keep the scholarship because they averaged at 3.35 for two semesters if they were required to maintain a 3.25 forthe level scholarship that they received?

From what I understand, it is for the academic year. The GPA is cumulative. The scholarships are yearly so from what I’ve been hearing, as long as your GPA for the year is above the requirement you will continue to receive it for the following year. I don’t think it is per semester.

I know some colleges make it so that as long as your overall GPA is over the requirement then you are good. For example freshman year your GPA is 3.75 and your sophomore year your GPA is 3.25. If the requirement was 3.5, then because your overall GPA was 3.5 or higher you would get the scholarship for junior year. That is my understanding.

I would assume financial letters should be sent out soon considering out deposits are only refundable through May 1st.

Still no letter today, and deadline to accept scholarship coming up. Anyone heard anything yet? My S has received one from another school so I assume our info made it to school.

I haven’t heard anything yet or received anything in the mail. However, I’m a transfer student so mine could be different. Either way, my deposit is only refundable thru May 1st so I need to hear back soon.

How did you get through? When I call I just get voice mail boxes. When I email our rep she keeps saying “we mailed them today” and yet we haven’t received anything in the mail yet. Very “unwow.”

I haven’t had much luck getting in contact with the college through email. Usually calling is the best way. I didn’t get a letter in the mail today however I did get some poster. Not exactly what I was looking for but it was pretty cool!

We weren’t expecting anything other than the scholarship (well, we were hoping that she would have at least rec’d subsidized Stafford vs. all unsub)

We’re really waiting for the financial aid package from another school (this one will include final scholarship numbers). Then we’ll be able to finally put this college decision to rest.

What is anyone doing about this silly 3/31 deadline for HPU scholarship acceptance?

P.S. - HPU spring break was last week which would have added to difficulties in getting in touch

My daughter is also waiting from the other college now and then compare cost. There is also the 3rd option of April 7th but then have to definitely let them know. Hopefully we will know which college by the end of the month. We have until May 1st though to get deposit back right?

I got my financial letter today and I live in upstate NY. I’m not a fan of the March 31st deadline. Unlike most of you guys, mine didn’t include scholarship information. I was told with my GPA that I would get one, however there is nothing about it in this letter. Maybe after sending this semester’s final grades I’ll get one? I’m transferring as a junior. Overall I was happy with the federals grants/loans I was offered.

May 1st is the deadline to get deposits back. I would hope they would have all the numbers in place before then.

First I must say that my wife, son and I looked at a number of Universities and Colleges and really fell in love with HPU and what it had to offer. We also were impressed with how well it seems to be put together.

Then it has come to the financial aid aspect. It seems to me that the area itself is a step behind. We also received my son’s aid package yesterday, it was not much. On top of that the response to accept is 3/31. The letter is dated 3/9 and was mailed out 3/17. Not much time to decide either. I do plan on asking for an extension.

We are from Long Island, NY. Does anyone else have experience dealing with the folks in financial aid, and have you been fortunate enough to squeeze more money out.

My son did receive aid packages of 15k and 10k from other schools, but has his heart set on this one.

Any advice or suggestions would be really appreciated.

Yes May 1st for the deposit. Which is why it is odd about the 3/31 on the other reply needed. Unless they have a very long waiting list and want to weed out those who are not going to go.
