Our family is scheduled to visit High Point next week. We are NC residents, and I had never heard of this school before recently. The buzz is definitely building.

My son toured Elon during spring break, and he really was impressed. However, it is a stretch for him. Several people recommended checking out High Point as an alternative. It does not have the reputation of Elon at this point; however, it is nice to have alternatives. Elon has become much harder in admissions for the average student.

True on BOTH counts. Nido Qubein has done a marvelous job at High Point, raising many standards at the school. They are now also very active in athletics as well. But Elon is indeed becoming very hard to get into. On the other hand, your son should DEFINITELY apply to Elon and see if he either gets in or waitlisted. A lot of kids get into Elon off the waitlist as admitted students often forego Elon to attend UNC-Chapel Hill, Wake or Duke.

If he gets into Elon....GO!

Does anyone have any info on scholarships for High Point?

The gift baskets and cards are sweet, but UGH...a communal hot tub? Wide-screen televisions in the dining hall? I wonder how the academics are that they need all this fluff to attract students.
