High School Class Multiplier

Hello,

I am currently a Sophomore in high school. I have been looking at some other high schools, and I noticed that some have multipliers different than mine.

My high school uses the following system for determining gpa (N=grade)

AP = 1.1N
Accelerated (Honors) = 1.06
Academic = 1.02
General = 1

I have taken 2 AP classes and 9 Accelerated classes.

My unweighted GPA is a 4.0 (100 in all classes), but my weighted GPA is a 4.27 (maximum weighted I can have right now)

After reading some other posts here, I noticed that some students applying to schools that I would love to attend have GPA’s of 4.7 Weighted and some close to that.

I am concerned because the maximum weighted GPA someone graduating at my school could have is a 4.4, and that is not even close to a 4.7.

How would colleges or universities go about this issue.

Thanks!

Colleges look at your gpa in context of your high school and will not compare it to other schools. Some colleges will recalculate gpa’s with their own scale. Each high school send the college their school profile so that colleges can see how grades are calculated and determine the rigor of your program.

Thanks for the help!

Colleges typically recalculate to a simple 4.0. In TX AP and Duel credit are 5.0 classes but if you were to apply to UT as a duel credit student with a 4.7 they will recalculate those 5.0 grades to a simple 4.0, giving you a B average

Ok. That makes sense. Thanks!
