High School Class of 2013

@iluvbooks how was the world history test? I’m taking it in June and haven’t heard great things. I’m currently finishing up ap world. Anyone else planning on taking it?

@Dfree Maybe you’re right, but it makes more sense that those top med schools would want to accept their own students/ fellow top school students.

Yea, I heard that if you went to the same school for undergrad you get a pretty significant leg up.

Yeah, and I heard the ivies love to keep ivy league students within the league… Not sure how much truth there is to that, but I’ve definitely heard that.

Ouch, best of luck to everyone this week on all their SAT/SAT subject tests endeavours! I’m taking the SAT for the second time in June, so that I have enough time to get settled in and caught up with coursework when I come home from my French exchange next week.

So, I’m kind of late to this post but whatever. Anyways, hi! My goal is to ultimately become a pediatric oncologist (kid cancer doctor), or a pediatrician in general. Duke is my dream school. I’m going to Brown’s summer program this year. (My class is Neuroscience in Health and Disease.)

Really? I thought that they made a decent amount. I know oncologists do though. Money isn’t really the appeal for me though. I like working with kids, and I’ve always wanted to be a doctor. My 7-year-old cousin was recently diagnosed with cancer, so that kind of has me focused in oncology. (I’ve also have several adults in my family who are either survivors or lost their battle with cancer; so I want to help those with it.)

They actually don’t make that much. I think being a pediatrician would be incredibly boring though… Go with pediatric oncologist (or neonatologist. Babiiieessss<3)

Neonatologist have to take care up sick babies/ cut them open for surgery/ tell the parents if something goes wrong. That’s one of the saddest things I can think of.

It’s incredibly sad, and with a low success rate. But I think it would also be incredibly rewarding.

It wasn’t too bad. I didn’t take an AP/IB world history class before taking it and got a 770. I did, however, reread my entire textbook cover-to-cover and do some official practice tests. I’d recommend studying a lot if you aren’t the best at remembering facts, as there are some obscure questions and references. I really like history, so it was pretty good for me. Plus, since the test is considered to be hard, the curve is really generous. Don’t quote me, but I want to say 8 or so wrong is an 800, or something crazy like that.

LesleyCordero - I was browsing around and came across this thread, I figured it’s relevant to our earlier conversation. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/1332973-undergrad-question-medical-school.html

Well it depends on which LAC’s… If it’s like Amherst, Wesleyan, Bowdoin, Wesleyan, etc, well that’s pretty much like going to an ivy league…

I meant like going to your state school and wanting to go to Harvard Med…Doubt that happens often

Yea, that’s probably true. Unfortunately for us, our state schools suck. I wish I was born in like Michigan or Virginia or something like that.

Yeah, their state schools are really good… I think SUNY Stony Brook, Binghamton and Geneseo aren’t half bad either though…

I’ve heard decent things about Bing, but they’re still no Cal or UNC either.

Haha yeah, I agree

Cal is horrible. It’s expensive, weeds everyone out, and the premed advising is awful.

Wow, really? O.o

It’s 33k instate.

And rising 16% yeary.
